The Drums of Atlant

The Drums of Atlant takes place on a future Earth, or Terra as it is generally called by that time, starting in the year 2048. On Terra a culture of science has developed out of the ashes of a near-miss of a world war that almost became a nuclear war, or actually did in some regions. This has led to sweeping changes across the world, from the clothing styles that are fashionable, to interpersonal interactions, to what is considered interesting work, no aspect of life has remained unchanged. Even in the regions where such a scientific culture does not predominate, the influence is still there. By this point humanity has begun an age of space conquest on a truly grand and massive scale, spreading throughout the solar system, having begun to master space and mass, and even beginning terraforming of Mars. This fuels further changes as plant and animal fossils mere tens of millennia old are discovered on that rusty world. Yet despite all these great and monumental achievements, their sun, old Sol, is dying... and no one realizes it. Now the sun's fusion wanes significantly; its gravitational field becomes unstable.   Working at a feverish pace, scientists all over the planet work to counteract the dying star's negative effects, and in the process discover that certain millennia-old scientific and mathematical assumptions are wrong. But by correcting these errors they find something long forgotten, something they never dreamed possible, something their ancestors called fantasy... they discovered a means to achieve real Time Travel. This allows for travel at speeds beyond that of light, for time travel and travel at such speeds are equivalent. Now the distant stars are open to ALL humanity...
