Vessel
So called sacred entities chosen by The Great Ones to first be given power, then madness and worship, leaving them in an empty vessel-state for those who gifted them magick and immortality to move through them. Only through the vessels may cosmic magicks effect the other planes of reality in any rapid, truly effective way. They tear open rifts. All with the inevitable goal of letting the Great Ones through.
Qualifications
All minds are capable of being warped by the eldritch. However, all minds have a veil in place that purposefully blinds them from the Unknown, keeping them from understanding it - and at times even from perceiving it. These veils aren't indestructible. Enough trauma, enough cosmic slipping through the cracks can rip apart a person's veil and leave their mind open for corruption. None of these people could become Vessels.
Vessels are born without a veil in place. Though they do not know it -- indeed, many will live and die without being reached by the Great Ones -- there are entities born with the ability to see anything within or without the plane of reality they belong to. A vessel's comprehension of the world is therefore warped on the principle of their existence. While they may not understand what they see down to its core, they understand enough of it to be able to interact with it and not lose their minds in a way that leaves them broken and useless.
Most must be magically inclined as well, though this isn't always necessary. Innate magical skill, untrained prior to becoming a Vessel or otherwise, allows for the magicks given by their masters to form into something far more nuanced and delicate for usage. It can also make their magick more explosive when truly put to use. Natural magickal skill, more or less, translates directly into this: do they act as a knife or a bomb when using their powers?
Appointment
Contact with The Great Ones. Whispers and dreams, visions in the corner of your eye. A song that won't leave your head no matter how many others you sing to escape it. A sluggish, slow realization of the truth of all things, and the power you can contain within yourself if giving over to the side that will not, has never lied to you. You have to give yourself over. You have to sink into the taste of the Cosmic and become unknown yourself. It will erase you, every part of you from the world you were born to. It will leave you to create a new self in the eyes of the mortal.
Once they have eaten you, fully and joyfully, the claim of Vessel is yours.
Duties
The spreading of the eldritch unknown. Those who create the Vessels do so with the inherent intention of being released, once and for all, into this world, and can only do so by having cracks placed in every plane of reality so they may take them one by one. It is the duty of a Vessel to do just this with the magick and power they've been given. Killings, corruptions of towns, warping of reality, all these are actions that can tear into the fabric of the planes.
Benefits
Magick. An inherent agelessness, and a body that resists most deaths. A Vessel takes in pieces of its masters and becomes all the more powerful for it.
