Trying to sell a dwarf a riding horse
“Trying to sell a dwarf a riding horse” is an old expression for someone attempting to explain something to an audience that is completely opposed to something. It derives from the fact that Dwarves find riding to be physically uncomfortable with their broad builds and comparatively short legs. When forced to choose a mount they prefer sure footed barrel shaped beasts rather more like large ponies, than horses. Some wizards have theorized that their natural connection to stone makes them adverse to not being rooted to the earth, but Dwarves say the horses are just uncomfortable and all together unpleasant animals.
