The
Khazad only truly entered the war after the assault on Karl Woodcutter’s family. The Woodcutter Sept was a minor part of the CoalDelver Clan, but they operated in the
Dunatar Forest and often went farther to secure supplies of Darkwood.
We satisfied our obligations to the
Humans of the
Kingdom of Tolpereth by supplying masterwork weapons to their army.
Now a
Kalenish lord named Gilsilith thought that he could hinder our production by disrupting our supplies of Darkwood, and ambushed Karl Woodcutter and his sons, intending to leave no witnesses. But, one of Karl’s sons made it back to a CoalDelver Thorp and reported what had happened.
Clan Coaldelver called for a Thing and Clan Ironstone agreed to host it at their rather large AettBurg. At the end of the Thing the two largest clans (Ironstone and Battlehammer) as well as a few smaller ones (GoatMarcher and CliffCarver) agreed to support CoalDelver in entering the war directly. The venture was divided into two battalions, one led by Kor Dor-Nae of the Ironstones and another lead by Brog Greathammer of the Battlehammers. They would take two separate routes, eventually meeting up again on opposite sides of Gilsilith’s tower.
We marched swiftly and often under the cover of darkness, each group doing all we could to disrupt the
Kalenish raiders on their routes to Gilsilith’s tower. We gathered some allies on the way- our battalion under Kor convinced a group of
Halfling Dog Soldiers being led by Brogo Smallburrow (they had been operating as raiders against
Kalenish units for the
Marquis of Wesmarch), to join his force as scouts. Brog's battalion rescued a
Romen troop that had been cut off from their lines, and they agreed to join him.
Both groups met up at the tower as planned and finished razing it not a week before news that the war was over arrived.
Didn't you ever wonder about the poor quality of the stone in the treepits? It came from Gilsilith's tower- worked stone is worked stone, and it was a shame to let it go to waste, even if it was cut by
humans. We left nothing but a clearing and a cave in the foothills that the
Kalenish thought would protect them from us.
