Raindance Tradition / Ritual in The Distorted Lands | World Anvil

Raindance

Let me get this truthfully. You do this without Sailors Sore affecting you?

History

According to Xalnan historical works, during the early days of exploration the Xalnans met and integrated a proto-culture and one things that became popular in the rest of Xalna was their raindance.

Venirans have never understood why one would want to do so, mostly due to biological differences making the raindance unpractical.

These differences are in part the body shape, making it difficult to perform the moves and in part the moisture increases the risk for Sailors Sore, which almost all Venirans are trying to avoid.

Execution

There are two versions of the raindance which can be mixed together. The first one includes very fast movement designed to spread as much water as possible over the body, while the second one is calm and meant to create a feeling of harmony.

There is also a variation that is more intimate to be performed with a partner. This version is commonly performed in private.

Participants

Everyone who can be outside when it rains performs the dance with no key roles, but the more join the more fun it is.

The children like performing the fast version due to the more energetic and playful movement, while the elders commonly go for the slow version or a mix of the two.

Observance

During summertime the temperatures can get uncomfortable hot, so when it rains it is a joyous moment to be celebrated. Groups usually dance for up to a week, after which dancing is halted in order to symbolise that one should not encourage a flood.

I liked the sense of the article, or what it was trying to convey, but I am still very unsure as to what the radiance is, aside from a week-long dance under the rain. I think it would be helpful to the reader if you explained the dance and the timing a bit more in detail.

I'd love to provide it, but I'm very bad at writing descriptions for bodies and body movement. If I get to I'll be sure to inform you, MGatta.
