Yhitsal
Perched on the southernmost tip of Awari , Yhitsal has long been a cultural center for the various tribes of the island. Now its role has grown to include being Awari's only port and Duvi's capital for the region.
Demographics
Yhitsal is the only place in Awari with any significant amount of Virsens . Still the majority of the population are Awaris. The population is a mixture of various tribes but the southern tribes tend to have a stronger presence in the town. Erah's Touched and Erah worshipers are especially common here as Erah's cult has a strong presence on the island. Yhitsal is the typical starting location of expeditions to explore and map Awari.
Government
A council of representatives from every tribe represents Awari as a whole. Duvi has appointed a regional administrator who mostly helps enforce the council's decrees and acts as a liaison between the council and Duvi's sovereign.
Industry & Trade
Most Yhitsalians are fishers, hunters, or craftspeople. Metals and gemstones mined from elsewhere in Awari are transported here to be traded with merchants or to be turned into goods which are either traded with merchants or traded to other Awari. Since Duvi's recent focus on exploration has drawn more attention to Awari there is a not inconsiderable guide industry in the town.
Infrastructure
Yhitsal is built on the very tip of Awari overlooking ocean. It has several docks of various sizes for when the ocean around the town aren't frozen. Several indoor marketplaces for foreign trade are located near these docks. The Awarins use two indoor marketplaces further in the city for trading amongst themselves. A large communal meetinghouse in near the center of the city which is used for all sorts of events and is also often used for the tribal council's meetings. Near the meetinghouse is the regional administrator's house and office space. Several of the tribes with a larger presence in Yhitsal have their own small meetinghouses. There is a sizable temple to the deities and a large shrine to Erah.
Guilds and Factions
Every Awari tribe has at least one representative in the town but Yhitsal is considered strictly neutral territory. Some claim though that the council tends to rule more in favor of the southern tribes since they have a larger presence in the town. Most friendly or largely friendly competitions between the tribes are held in or around Yhitsal.
Architecture
Most buildings are hide tents or made of snow and ice. The larger public buildings are often made of stone and some imported wood. Most buildings are undercoated but some public buildings are decorated with tooled leather, carved bone, and even metal and stone work.
Geography
For most of the year, Yhitsal is surrounded by snow and ice, but during the summer it melts away somewhat creating patches of grass on the landscape. During the coldest parts of the year the ocean around Yhitsal freezes, cutting it and the rest of Awari off from the rest of the world.
