Mark of Freedom

Written by invadersforever

The Mark of Freedom is an honour awarded to agents of Duuloa Gix who show great bravery and dedication to the cause. It is unfortunately often awarded posthumously. The Mark takes the form of a tattoo for living recipients, and a print on a wooden disk in posthumous awarding. The Mark looks like a golden claw-swipe.   In the frequent case that no living relative is available or willing to receive the physical award, it is passed to either a close friend or fellow agent, or kept in a display in Duuloa Nargied's office. Each wooden disk comes with the name of the agent written along the edge.

History

The award was allegedly first achieved by Duuloa Gix themself, when she died slaying a dragon. This is a feat that has not been matched or even considered since.   The Mark was initially only given as a tattoo, and would be put on the bodies of fallen agents before they were cremated. As the organization grew, it became more common to have a wooden version. This was especially useful when no body can be recovered, or the body is too mangled to tattoo.

Observance

Those who earn this award while still living are greatly revered by their fellow agents. Baring the golden Mark on your shoulder or chest is seen as a higher honour than any rank. Those who have it often find themselves in leadership positions, or set up with a good retirement if they are no longer able to serve.
