The Disappearance of Mineral Cliff

Underneath the world we know, heat flux portals to another dimension open and close intermittently. This alternate dimension, coined The Infernal, is the source of many terrors that spill into Earth's subterranean caves and deep oceans.   The Infernal is the origin of many human mythologies (Titans, Giants, Gods) who vacated their dying world to rule ours. These immortal beings found their power diminishing the longer they tarried on earth - being distant from the Infernal Flame. Many of the titans and gods melded with earth and fell into deep slumber in order to preserve the last of their power (Mt. Everest, Mariana Trench, ect.). Some were killed by their spawn or Demi-Gods that roamed the earth. Others lost their power completely and turned to dust. A few still roam the earth in human or animal form, seeking the portals to their Infernal home.   Mass exodus from the Infernal began when Prometheus stole one of the Infernal Embers and brought it to earth. This ember bestowed onto a select group of chimps the light of intellect and the ability to make fire, but cursed them with unending ambition to spread and consume. For thousands of years the Infernal Flame continued to falter and as beasts, mystical creatures, and monsters rushed to The Portal. The last titan, Chenoa, used the power of the last two embers of the Infernal Flame to destroy the portals leading to earth. As a final act, she melded herself in front of the final Portal, smiting all creatures attempting to slip into Earth. She leaves the portal open in hope that the final ember in earth will one day be returned to the Infernal.   As the Infernal Flame faltered, the Infernal world slowly was consumed by a growing cold shadow that absorbs all heat and light. This darkness consumed the creatures not brave or quick enough to slip past the Titan. Now the shadow waits for the Infernal Embers to burn out in the Titan's hands, using monsters and beasts that slip past the tiring titan to bring back humans to take the final embers. A final measure to consume the Infernal and begin consuming the heat and warmth of Earth.   The Titan protects the only remaining portal between the Infernal and Earth. It leads to one small mining town in the Appalachian Mountains...called Mineral Cliff.
