Sihkern

Utility

The Sihkern has mainly one use, to power up technological devices that are incapable of moving or function on their own. The bigger the size of the Sihkern, the bigger the device can be. Mainly they are found in Skyships, the Railwagons and also function as the heart of the Valsanir.
However it must be noted, that using magic near a Sihkern can prove catastrophic as it absorbs all kinds of energy, without discrimination and can overload leading to a magic explosion. This is why it's usually forbidden for magic users to be situated near a Sihkern.
It is also used to power up weapons or to create explosive devices as once its outer layer has been ruptured, it releases tremendous amounts of magical energy.
However it has been theorised that heavy use of the Sihkern is detrimental to the environment. This theory relies on another theory which states that the magical energy is finite and thus, drawing too much can cause problems for future generations.

Manufacturing

The Sihkern is built in specifically constructed locations, insulated by the outside world. This is required to minimize the destruction caused by the rupture and subsequent explosion of a Sihkern. In those location first the complex devices which will be placed within the device are created. For this the Daesan require the help of mages, as themselves are unable to channel magic. The size and scope of the device is decided and then the outer layer is molded by metal. The conditions are that this metal needs to allow for magic to flow freely through its surface. That is why Staurhil is preferred. In rare occasions when making weapons, Staurhil is disregarded for other metals.

The Sihkern were created in collaboration between Alluin Farkana and Jokaster.

Access & Availability

The secret blueprint, or recipe if you will, to create a Sihkern is known only to the Daesan. Their constructions requires the use of both magic and technology and as such the Daesan work closely with select mages, usually provided by the Academy.

Complexity

A Sihkern, or Magcore as they are commonly called is a very complex device. It varies in size but its shape remains the same: A sphere. It is covered with an almost impenetrable layer of metal, usually Staurhil and inside lie several devices which draw magical energy from the environment around the sphere.

Discovery

The Sihkern, or Magcores are a product of years of research and development by the Daesan. Before their perfection they were used to power up weapons before the discovery of Cordite.
