Space Cowboy - Jin Starunner

Rise to Stardom

Jin Starunner is a Space Cowboy, a man without a home roaming the breadth and width of the galaxy taking on an assortment of dangerous jobs along the way. Starunner has been travelling the galaxy for a number of years now, despite only being in his late twenties, and for the most part, has flown under the radar. He was known in some small circles for being a reliable hand, especially when a job required someone who could take care of a sticky situation with little at hand.
Not much is known publically about Starunner's past, and he isn't keen to share details, and typically keeps to himself while travelling alone. He came onto the scene a few years back, taking on smaller jobs just outside of the Obor system before moving farther away to some of the more remote sectors of The Delta Space. It seemed for many years he intentionally only took small-time jobs, preferring simpler low-key gigs. Starunner seemed content with his status as a lesser-known and underpaid Space Cowboy.
Until the day he became a hero. While on a simple seek and retrieve job in one of the outer sectors near Unknown Space he saved a group of children being ferried via transport to an off-the-track world scheduled to be sold into slavery. Starunner has not commented on the rescue and has given no additional details as to how he came upon the transport or why he decided to veer from the details of the job and risk his life to save those aboard. Reports of the encounter state that Starunner took his ship, which was dwarfed by the larger and more heavily armoured transport and somehow disengaged its propulsion systems using his ship's blasters. A tough thing to do without causing significant damage to the ship, which would have put those found within in danger. He then forcefully boarded the ship, subdued the crew, and freed the captives. He stayed only long enough to ensure that the nearest system's police force arrived in time to pick up the children. He did not give any comments on the situation opting to leave in the hopes that his name wouldn't get added to the report.
But, Starunners name did and his deeds began to spread in the sector, and then the next and before long the label of hero was being attached to his name. Starunner doesn't seem overly impressed by the title, opting to state that he only did what he felt was right and doesn't want the added pressure or attention the event has given him. In fact, he has simply told people to leave him alone and to stop spreading his name. But it is far too late for late, and Jin Starunner is now practically a celebrity with all sorts of jobs being offered to him from several nearby sectors. Whether he likes it or not.

Untold Origins

Jin Starunner was born on the planet Isis in the Obor system, a quiet planet populated with large stretches of ocean and forest. Starrunner was born to parents of common status and lived the first few years of his life in relative comfort. Until war came to his home, the long-running war between The Imperial Council of Planets and the Lupine, two neighbouring nations fighting for control over territory for years on and off. The Imperials and the Lupine had discovered that this stretch of space held several asteroid belts of value that had yet to be claimed by anyone, and both decided that were the proper claimants due to the unclaimed stretch bordering their home sectors. This of course sparked an easy excuse for battle, and the two nation's violence spilled into the Obor system. Sadly, one of the asteroid belts being fought over orbited Isis, and the fighting soon found its way there.
Over the next few weeks, the planet would be ravaged by sweeping skirmishes between the warring nations, neither caring who was caught in the crossfire. Thousands would perish in the crossfire, including Jin's parents. Jin, only six years old at this point would struggle to survive over the following weeks. But eventually, The Imperials would take the victory and with it control over the planet and its inhabitants. Jin would find himself being picked up by a band of Imperial Militia, along with many other orphaned children, and sent off to an Imperial training station deep with Imperial territory. For the next decade, he would be trained, educated, and brainwashed by The Imperials to serve them as a devoted soldier. After his training was completed, Jin would serve in their militia conducting hundreds of missions over the following six years.
At first, he was a loyal soldier and even gained a high rank within their army, but soon he would see the brutality doled out by the Imperials. He saw first hand what had happened to him when he was young, with The Imperials engaging in yet another war with a nearby nation, nearly destroying an entire planet in the name of Imperial glory. The last straw came when he was faced directly with what the nation wrought upon the planet's inhabitants. His space fighter had been damaged and he was forced to land amongst a ruined city on the planet, there he saw exactly what kind of suffering he had been a part of years ago.
He saw families torn apart and killed, children orphaned, and violence forced upon a planet that didn't ask to be involved. These shocking sights broke Jin free from the years of brainwashing conducted on him by the Imperials and he saw clearly what he was doing for the first time since childhood. He was appalled at what he had become, ashamed and disgusted of his actions he fled the planet after finding passage on an off-world-bound emergency transport. He had officially deserted the Imperials and found himself on the run without a home or cause. Over the next few years, he would gain his status as a lesser-known Space Cowboy. However, with his rising fame, his past may come to haunt him once more.

Jin is a calm individual, some would even say he comes across as somewhat lethargic in his presence. He doesn't often get angry, usually tending to brush things off and deal with most situations non aggressively. But anytime children are in danger he seems to let go of this laid-back attitude and will do anything to save them from said danger. Including putting himself into harm's way.

What is a Space Cowboy?

Space Cowboys are wanderers of the galaxy that have no home other than the ship they fly. They are vagabonds without a true cause, that weave between systems, sectors, and planets looking for their next gig. They pick up the jobs that most find too dangerous to be worth it, often finding themselves bounty hunting, dealing in protection services, or even transporting illegal or sensitive goods.
