The year is 417 BCE. North of the ancient Greek polises, a newfound state has begun to flourish. The Odrysian Kingdom, the first stable union of the Thracian tribes, is gathering power, stretching as far south as Abdera and Maroneia.   The Thracians, the most numerous peoples of the ancient European world, also happen to be the most mysterious.
