Emulant

The most technologically advanced species in the universe     Location   Emulants can be found in climate controlled domed cities, where they live in tall flats that can be put together and taken apart quickly. The reason for this is because there is a strong expectation more improved and efficient buildings will become available in the near future.     Reproduction & Sexuality   Unlike other species, emulants do not reproduce through sex, instead they create a new copy from an original human, whereupon they will share the same skills and past experiences but will have different futures. The majority of emulants are therefore asexual as they view sex as unnecessary and time consuming. A few curious ones may choose to run a simulation to experience sex as their original human did.     Naming Traditions   Emulants are named after the original human they have been copied from, followed by a unique number. Unless they want to be specific, emulants from other clades tend to refer to another emulant by the original humans name. Emulants within the same clade are usually referred to by the unique numbers they were assigned.     Original Human   The original human to which the emulants are copies of are considered by their corresponding clades as gods. They are grateful towards the original human for creating them and thus allowing them to exist. All emulants are able to visit their clade's virtual world to visit the statue of their original human.     Ageing & Death   Fear of death is practically non-existent for this species as they consider themselves as transcending death because they have a backup of the original human and they can make a new copy when an old one is to be retired. For emulants death is called retiring because most of the time they will choose a convenient time for when they are to end - usually when they are old and weak and no longer productive for society. It is further worth noting that emulants regularly archive themselves and upon retiring, these archives may be recalled in order to ask questions about their past experiences, which is particularly useful in cases where they may have been witnesses to a crime. The ability to recall archives could be considered a form of an afterlife.   All emulants are implanted with a hidden suicide switch which only they can turn on in those cases where they may choose to do so such as rape or torture. The only time death is feared is when the computers which store backups of their original human are destroyed, which is why clades spend so much money on security where these computers are located.     The Creation of Emulants   Emulants are made of synthetic materials and are powered by bio-batteries. Each one is given a secret code or more specifically a cryptographic private key with its own unique identifier which prevents illegal copying.   In each clade there are several emulants trained in creating and retiring other emulants. This is considered a prestigious position to have as they have been granted great power and responsibility. To create a new emulant they would want to know what the new copy's assigned job/ task would be, where they will live etc. it is important they have a good reason as to why this new copy will be created as the process to make one costs the clade money.     Types of Emulants   There are three types:
  1. Spurt – These are short lived emulants created to fulfil a purpose and then retired upon completion. They can ensure client confidentiality as they can offer advice or view private information then retire.
  2. Snails – These have slower circuitry so they usually come from poorer clades that don't have the resources to pay for an androit.
  3. Androit – Seen as higher status because they are predominantly assigned positions in leadership due to their ability to think faster. They therefore usually possess more wealth over other emulants.
Augmentations   The rapid advancement in technology is a blessing for emulants as they can augment their bodies with additional capabilities at reasonably cheap prices. To do so they must choose a maximum of two augmentations - any more and they run the risk of blowing up the body due to overheating – lasting on average of 20 years, after which they may choose to replace them or get new ones. Augmentations range from caffeine like focus, brute force, increased flexibility and telescopic sight. As there are many companies that deal in augmentations there is a wide disparity in terms of quality.
