Crescent whales

Crescent whales are large cetaceans living in the Three Sea region, and reproducing near the Crescent sea. At up to 18 meters and 45 tons, they are the heaviest animals that exist on the Cylinder.

Social Structure

Crescent whales are friendly creatures, that have been observed playing with other cetaceans as well as nanocell-based aquatic lifeforms. Their social structure is relatively loose, and groups tend to naturally form and dismantle regularly over a few days. It is however known that whales are able to recognize other individuals even years after they met, and will greet each other upon forming a group.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Whales are hunted by Surface societies for their grease, their meat, and their bones.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Present in most of the Trisean region and the underground water networks that surround it, the whales are exclusively breeding in the Crescent sea.

Average Intelligence

Crescent whales are intelligent creatures, able to feel empathy for other cetaceans as well as for sentient beings. Over the last millennium, whales learned to fear the humans in the Crescent sea. They also learned to fight back against hunter, after the realization that breaching over one ship tended to break said ship.
