Typical Sky Folk Dwelling

Despite the introduction of more advanced construction methods and increased resources opened up by interworld trade, many Sky Folk still live in homes that aren't too dissimilar to their traditional dwellings. These circular houses were traditionally built buried halfway into the ground, the displaced dirt being used to construct the walls around a wooden framework and finished with a thatched roof on top. The house usually has a central room which is a combination living and cooking area, this is surrounded on the edges by smaller rooms such as bedrooms, bathrooms and storage. These rooms (with the exception of the bathroom and other humidity generating rooms) have open ceilings that open into the roof, allowing warmth to spread through the house with ease.

Modern versions of these buildings are built in much the same manner. The biggest differences being that the mud walls now have imported clay mixed for better stability, the integration of electricity, usually in the form of solar panels, wind turbines and batteries and plumbing. Despite their primitive look, these houses can provide the creature comforts just as well as any modern home. Some also integrate some more modern building techniques such a metal support beams, plastered walls and central heating which can remove the necessity fo open ceilings. Some are even opting for a second floor since the new techniques and materials opened up that option.

Purpose / Function

Building's built in this style are generally used as homes, their heat-retaining qualities making them very well suited to living comfortably in their cold environment. Their fairly small size limits their use in commercial buildings, though some small shops have occasionally been set up in them.
