The Ashmouth Forest

At the northern and western coasts of Venathel is a forest called the ashmouth. Though much of it has been covered by the ashlands, what remains has been enriched by the ash, forming a dense forest of vibrant green and living wood. Deep within the woods, some have found fortune in ruins left behind by the ancients, powerful weapons or relics of unknown purpose, and from time to time the things discovered in these ruins help to further our own knowledge. Most people don't go into the forest these days, though. As The Ash Sweeps grow more common, people claim to see things in the mist, day and night. Misshapen things. Those who wander into the woods at night tend to go missing, and those we send to find them find nothing. We don't find bones, or any other remains, or any sign of those we've lost. The forest takes them from us, and all we're left with is their memory. During the day, however, the ashmouth is a safe place, filled to bursting with life. The foul pixies make their homes here, and sell their wares for insane prices to any that come their way. Some folk have claimed to have bought a charm from the pixies that kept them safe through the night, but the stories are all missing something. I find them somewhat difficult to believe. That said, I have purchased one of these charms myself. At some point, I'll delve into the ruins and, if the charm protects me through the night, I'll report my findings.

Geography

The Ashmouth runs between The Ashlands and the Sillick river, which passes from the false peaks into the Astral Sea. For most of the year, the day leaves the ashmouth layered in thick fog which coats the forest in dew. This fog recedes in winter to a light mist that rolls over the small hills and exposed roots of the ashmouth.
