The Crooked City

The Old Lore tells a story of an ancient civilization of Men that had mastered the secrets of their world. They gouged out the heart of the earth, and built a suit of armor, many layers deep, upon its carcass. There was no magic, or science, or trade that was unknown to them, for the universe bent to their will. That is, until they disappeared. All recorded history of the Valka seem to point to an event we call the Vanishing, where every man, woman and child suddenly ceased to exist.   With their vanishing, they left behind a world that was dependent on their minds and their magic. Without the Valka at the helm, the tomb world they had created slowly began to crumble into disrepair. With their vanishing, they left us, their loyal servants, behind to fend for ourselves. The resulting conflicts plagued us for decades, as major players moved to fill in the power vacuum.   For the rest of us too small or too weak to carve off a piece of the pie for ourselves, we were relegated to the bottom of the dreg heap. There's nothing here except for the scraps tossed down to us from our Lords from on high. This is all that there is, all it will ever be. If that isn't enough for you... Take heed: the Others will eat you alive. You'll have to fight for every inch, and every bloody mile. Do you have what it takes to reach the top?   We'll see.
