Emperor Ulrich "The Kind" Purelight II
Emperor of the Crescent Empire Ulrich Purelight
Implementer of Ulrich's Laws, which ended the human-centric racial policies of the Empire, including humans paying lower taxes, only humans being able to participate in Imperial Court voting and other such bureaucratic advantages. Ulrich's Laws were put forth 15 years ago and caused a great deal of turmoil and protest but tensions have mostly cooled, though there is still heavy resistance from older generations of humans
The Emperor has been ruling for 22 years since his uncle Erwin "the Cruel" was forced to retire under circumstances just as mysterious as his assent to power 30 years prior.

Personal history
Ulrich II was born in the year 248, the same year his father, Harold III, and grandfather, Emperor Oliver "The Just" both died of a sudden illness, leaving the throne open for Harold's younger brother Erwin. Ulrich was raised primarily by his mother, but his uncle trained him personally in combat and strategy.
He took the throne for himself on his 30th birthday in the year 278, as his uncle, now Erwin "The Cruel" had grown too old and feeble to continue leading the Empire, much to his reluctance and chagrin. Months after ascending to Emperor, Ulrich married Thyri Nithem of Nithborg and they soon had three children, Harold IV, Livina, and Oliver II. Not long after Oliver was born Thyri became ill with the same strange illness that had killed Ulrich's father and grandfather, now called the "Curse of Erwin." Thyri died in 281.
Stricken with grief, Ulrich secluded himself for nearly a year before returning to the world a new man, focused on improving the Empire in as many ways as he could before he, himself, succumbed to this mysterious illness in his family. He married Sofiya el-Amiri of Hajar Alruhaa, an Elf woman, much to the surprise of the entire Empire, who had never seen an Elven king or queen before.
With his new queen at his side, Ulrich drafted what quickly became known as Ulrich's Laws, an open ended but clear message of anti-racism, banning all forms of racial discrimination in the Empire, particularly the common "Humans First" policies. These laws were implemented in 285, and riots quickly broke out, none as bad as the Founder's Day Riots of 286, which left several tens of thousands of humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, and people of all sorts dead in the streets of the capital. Ulrich put a restriction on the number of years or amount fined, lessening the tensions, and slowly people grew accustomed to the laws or figured ways around them, hiding their prejudices. During this time Ulrich himself worked hard to be seen regularly with his wife and children and people of other races, as well as human leaders. His charisma allowed him to ease crowds and he became quite popular again as the years continued.
Education
As with all Purelights, Ulrich was well trained in diplomacy, politics, economics, civics, combat, strategy, and a myriad of other things. He and his family receive the best education of anyone in the Empire, and the majority of people are literate.
Social
Religious Views
Ulrich was raised, just as the rest of his family, in the Church of Fire and Ice. He has been a devout Follower of the Twins his whole life, but has recently been showing a growing interest in Hyperion, the One True Goddess of the Elves, guided by his wife.
