Vertin Dust Material in The Cradle of Worlds | World Anvil

Vertin Dust

This strange mineral has fascinating magical properties. For some it awakens the mind to great potential, for others to madness. It is believed to be an artificially created biocrystaline resin, though there is only a single source of it and the creator is unknown.   It is currently mined by a monopoly of the Delve Corporation in the town of Ver'Del that is located in the Mad Dungeons beneath Sky and Sea Mountain outside Soramizu.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Hard, Dense and difficult to mine. It is a giant ball deep underground that glows faintly until removed from its home.

Distribution

Trade & Market

The Delve Corporation has almost a monopoly over the material, however there are rumors of another source that is controlled by the Mind Render cult. Additionally the Delve Corporation has exclusive trading deals with Ilroor Maror. This is circumvented a bit on the black market, though it is more of an open secret and only the distribution of a decent volume would be stopped and crushed. Most refining is done in Ver'Del and exported in its final form, though occasional samples are sold to arcane researchers at exorbitant prices.

Storage

Typically sold in a packed dust format. Molded into a solid round wafer form. These wafers typically are sold at differing levels of quality and stored in stone, metal or waxed fabric containers. The wafers are around the size of a common coin and worth their weight in gold. When reaching the surface they often end up as wafers on beds of velvet in ornate boxes.

Law & Regulation

Soramizu has banned the use of cutting it with aloor tonic and using it as a recreational drug. Most other uses are legal just about everywhere, it however is very expensive to acquire. Within Ilroor Maror it's use recreationally is actually celebrated as it is one of their primary businesses.

Enjoyable read! I'd like to know more about why it's believed to be an artificially created biocrystaline resin and why it was made illegal in Soramizu.
