Tarlinjin Ethnicity in The Cradle of Worlds | World Anvil

Tarlinjin

The Tarlinjin people are a group of mostly humans and halflings from the southern area of the Island Continent of Bellflower. They traditionally worship the Venetsir pantheon, have a cuisine full of fermented foods, and they value independence, control, and bluntness. Since The Plague of Silmora they have had there population significantly reduced. While in some nations they are still a majority, they do not as a people control most of the governments under which they live. The exception is in the Towers of Stone and the Great Nation of Ao.

Naming Traditions

Feminine names

Most feminine names end in vowels. Examples: Xima, Sava, Mila, Lola, Esma, Aeri, Chiki

Masculine names

Most masculine names end in consonants. Examples: Degod, Taig, Jax, Arlon, Elian, Daik, Dat

Unisex names

Several names buck the trend of vowel/consonant ending, and most that do are considered unisex or gender agnostic. Examples: Atio, Orogeo, Frinc, Orenzo, Manua

Family names

Family names are complex in that a person retains their father and mothers primary last names. When married they then take on the primary name of their spouse as a third last name. The naming is matrilineal: so the first last name is the mother's first last name, the second last name is the father's first last name, and the third last name is adopted on marriage and is the spouses first last name. Because of this complex family naming, most names are two to three syllables in length and only one given name is provided.   Examples of common last names: Rodri, Sant, Sato, Tana, Yamma, Mura, Kimi, Pere

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Human(Gumknish) and Halfling(Guanhum), both using the AoEim Alphabetical system primarially even though typical halfling uses the Chivom Logography. Due to this there are a subset of the simplified Chivom that have been adopted to work with the primary human language of Gumknish.

Major organizations

The Wolves Head is the largest single organization at this time. Though the clergy of the Venetsir is a close second, they are more autonomous in their own chapels and multiple organizations.
