Incursion of the Squidmen Military Conflict in The Cradle of Worlds | World Anvil

Incursion of the Squidmen

Outside the town of Traigh in the Mysterium during the summer of 7076 a group of Squidmen slavers (more formally known as the Yoronith ) attacked an Urlu settlement. They were repulsed when the 4th Regiment of the People's Reavers engaged them, however much of the Urlu settlement was destroyed and the survivors left within the year to find a new home.

The Conflict

Prelude

To date it is unknown why they would have raided the region, most raids have previously been in more mountainous regions to the north by over a hundred miles. It is also unknown how they entered through the old underground catacombs, as they were sealed and remain so today.

Deployment

It started on a Sorosan night (Weekend equivalent), with a raiding party of slaves began setting buildings on fire. A few squidmen then used their abilities to dominate the strong ones as they flee the burning buildings. A quick defense was organized in response which maneuvered the survivors into the local stone temple. This defense was maintained as the local wizard Terrintz contacted the 4th Regiment, who responded as quickly as they were able. The regiment appeared at daylight the next day and the ensuing battle forced the Squidmen and their slave warriors to retreat. That afternoon when the Regiment had regrouped enough to pursue them, there was no trace when reaching the catacombs of where they went. Even after breaking the external seals, there is no trace of deeper access without magical means of transport.

Outcome

While technically a victory for the Reavers, the Urlu people lost over half their population in the event and no longer felt safe near those catacombs. It is likely that the squidmen lost as many slaves as they captured (approximately 50), and several squidmen died in the process.
