Embal Settlement in The Cradle of Worlds | World Anvil

Embal

Demographics

Mostly human, but with a decent number of half-orcs and half-elves. Some from the other races as well.

Government

Town Comittee

Defences

The Foundary ward is enclosed by a low 15 foot berm and wall in case of internal accidents or external attacks. The town also has repurposed stone from unused buildings to build a cobblestone wall surrounding the center of town, leaving the less used run down buildings outside that area. A well armored guard (the Cevrite Spears) defends the town, as do several civil knights. They are well outfitted with powered ballistas and giant arbalests.

Industry & Trade

The smelting and foundary work is one of the principle exports, as such they import a large amount of raw metals coming from the Shield Hills and farther away. They have rehabilitated an ancient Dwarven sky carrier, which makes rounds to known mining settlements across the continent as well as to distribute the produced goods.

Infrastructure

Aging and unused foundries for metal casting that were once powered by Mystic Engines lie empty as does a large mud forge used to create ceramic resin objects. A few foundries have been repurposed to run with spell capacitors, and produce much of the cast iron, steel and iron billets. They are the best known source for metallic tri-pillar struts for durable tower construction.

Guilds and Factions

The Guild of Metallurgy and Resins runs the large foundries. While not technically part of the town council, the council will not move against the Guild. The Quillion is the local magic guild and educational institution. The Joxian (Dwarven sky Trader ship) is helmed by captain Horlantal Korvan and it's pivotal role makes him a local powerhouse even though he is often out of town.   The town council is made up of 7 citizens who are elected every 6 years to the position through precinct elections. The current head of the council is Amalia Thornvault.

History

Devastated after the The Plague of Silmora and the destruction of the Mystic Engines, the town greatly was reduced in size, though it's population has been recovering in the last 50 years as many people are leaving the smaller towns and migrating here.   Prior to the catastrophes it had much the same role it does today, but at a larger scale.

Architecture

Buildings range from massive warehouses, foundries, the great towers of the mud forge and more common multi-story brick town homes that line the streets. A few ten story apartment buildings exist but the power for the plumbing has made them mostly only operate the first two stories.
