The Cosmic Hourglass

A land where the spirits seemingly dictate everything, political drama hides a grander spiritual conflict that is bubbling up. The planes of existence are divided by nearly impassable barriers that are used to keep spirits that are too powerful from directly influencing the Mundane Realm. The mudanes are unaware of this, and the spirits are revered as Gods.   Magic is very prevalent in the world, with people being able to draw on the aether from with or around them to produce magical effects. This is done in a number of ways, either creating geometric arrays, focusing energy through a crystal or natural focus, or even the energy of the stars themselves. Some otheres are granted powers from the spirits which give them amazing powers in exchange for reverence and belief.   This is a land of war and conflict, where nation states fight on the Mundane plane fight over ideals, while the spirit themselves are fighting for supremacy over each other. If the war of spirits were to ever spiral out of control, the mundane plane would come to an end.
