The Elko Commune

"It's interesting how such a static place helps me on the middle path, but on this mountain I have found balance."
— Ursla Dresselhaus, resident of the Elko Commune.

Demographics

Almost half of the population are males between the ages of 18 to 45, with only 9 women in that same age range. There are 6 adults over the age of 45, and 13 minors.

Defences

Throughout the day and night members patrol the area, some with bats and pepper spray.

Industry & Trade

Some of their excess vegetables, goat's milk, cheeses and even the guinea pigs as pets are sold out to the public around Elko.

Infrastructure

The resident of the commune have used as much found sustainable material as possible as well as natural fixtures to make homes, modest enclosed atrium and outdoor garden with an irrigation system. There are also a couple large gathering areas including the sole kitchen, dining area, and fire pit.

Assets

The Commune holds a goat farm and a guinea pig farm, as well as a fruit and vegetable garden in their atrium that can support most of the members. Thomas Kelly also manages a bank account where the the Commune receives donations. The amount in savings is currently unknown.

History

On a whim in 2029, Hedge Fund Manager Tyler Sapp decided to invest in an isolated country where he could bring his family and have a pseudo-monarchy just for kicks. It was passed down over time until his final direct successor, Heath Sapp-Hissong, passed away in late 2142. Soon after the next heir, Thomas Kelly, was found.
The previous lodging was abandoned, having been poorly maintained and not in an ideal setting for a more sustainable type of living. They brought in donated and found materials to build their small village on the mountain.

Architecture

Most of the materials are either found pieces or leftover materials easy to carry up the mountain. Buildings are an amalgamation of old cinderblocks, wood in various states, tent materials, bricks, natural stone, and random other found structures.
There are a lot of structures around to promote minmal disposal of resources--composting centers, human fertilizer outhouses, rainwater colletctors, even reused mirrors using reflection to heat up some areas for comfort.
