Chapter Thirteen: Revealed in the Spring's Thaw

General Summary

The Discontents found themselves officially citizens of Delaera as of February of 2162. After having done everything they could to confirm the whereabouts of Tesla Price previously, they were given new homes and the opportunity for new lives. All seemed ready for new routines during this time period.
James decided that he would begin to learn medical practice, seeing as the Discontents had found themselves gravely injured a couple of times. Bodi Poppiti connected James to nurse Nicole Mailata, head trauma nurse of the medical center on Delaera. He began to learn about tactics and items to use on the field, including technology that he had never seen the likes of before. In the midst of this training, James also kept up casually with Lily Bjorklund, being introduced to more varied music that he knew possible.
Raymond had decided to turn a new leaf on his drinking, somewhat spurred on by his progress on sobriety at The Elko Commune. He joined a small Buddhist group on Delaera for communal support. He also wished to get back into his old hunting habits. Bodi was able to introduce him to the use of sport drones near the edge of Delaera's territory, and Raymond was able to bring back the use of his old skills.
Sebastian spent the time refining his combat training, his confidence low after the poor navigation of some the situations that brought him to Delaera. He joined a group that was practicing Tai Chi and began to make some friends. He only passingly mentioned his past in Fuyao Beimei but became friendly with those in the group.
Wei found himself extremely busy even with the bed rest through most of February, helping Delaera reformulate the glass composition for their space station design without the help of Fuyao Glass Industry Group. With what free time he did between his work and rehab for his healing hip, he kept up with Pete Deyes and his family. Wei was also the only Discontent actively trying to keep up with the news from Fuyao Beimei. From what he learned, a few other citizens escaped around the same time he and the others had. Na Dong was asked to head back to Fuyao Beimei from China to help evaluate the situation as an outsider. However, she had not been heard from after the first week of April. News stations reported tight patrols around the border, and Tao Lin keeping information from getting out.
All four Discontents got word of their first official mission that Bodi would deliver over a bagel brunch on the morning of April 6th, 2162. In a conference room with bagels, spreads, fruits and coffee, Bodi explained their new target: Hasan O'Malley. O'Malley had worked for Virgin Galactic previously with tech readouts related to biometrics. Unfortunately Virgin Galactic felt in necessary to separate from O'Malley due to disagreements on ethics. Recently, Virgin Galactic received intel that Alphabet had been using O'Malley to develop nanotechnology, which is making Virgin Galactic nervous. It is also information that Virgin would like to use for their space station. The Discontents are to find O'Malley's hiding place, presumably in the Chicago area, and find out as much information as possible about the tech. Bodi suggested that if Hasan is considered too dangerous, that self defense would be tolerated.
The Discontents, wanting weapons and protection, requested aliases for when they hit Chicago. They also ask for a laptop with substantial storage and encryption. Bodi is happy to provide both, and says that he will have guns and other items delivered to their hotel suite at Cooper's Inn, located in the West Loop neighborhood. The Discontents than use the time remaining in the day to prepare. Raymond meditates. Sebastian spars, with Wei joining him after a visit with Pete Deyes. James send an email to Lily, and then finds himself feeling melancholy about the predicament he's in, and what he's left behind.
Early on April 7th, the Discontents had their aliases ready to go and boarded a ride on the North American United High Speed Rail to Chicago, this time on coach in order to delay suspicion. During the ride Wei does research on O'Malley's background, selling his services to give patents to the rich who do not have the knowledge or will to develop certain technologies they wish to create. O'Malley takes the payout over the patents, and has a history of doing unsanctioned and inhumane tests on animals to develop the technology he invents. At the same time, Raymond looked through the catalog of information on The Truth Machine and found out there was recently a sighting "genuine zombies" outside the Museum of Suburban Living in Roselle, an area outside of Chicago proper.
When the Discontents arrive at Cooper's Inn, their generous suite has their trunk full of spare clothes and guns with FOID cards. Bodi's note alludes to an alias of a miniature college reunion with old friends.
By April 8th the Discontents are figuring out what their next move should be. As Raymond and Sebastian decide to buy the ingredients for molotov cocktails, Wei and James devise of a plan to reach out to Hasan for his services. As James coordinates with Bodi to secure fictional funds in order to put down a payment toward a new type of bio-metric readouts on glass interfaces, Wei figures they can go back to utilizing Fuyao Beimei as a cover. The two explain the plan to Sebastian and Raymond, who were receptive to this idea. They decide to reach out to Conor Obada, the one lead given to them by Bodi, to see if they can arrange a meeting. As James receives an email from Lily stating that she would be willing to meet up if he was available in town, the Discontents secure their next move on April 8th, 2162.
