Cargill South

"It's a good simple life for the right folk, and all the right folk are down here."
— Tracey Vega, citizen of Cargill South.

Demographics

Almost half of the population is of Latin American descent, with the majority with either Mexican, Honduran or Columbian origins. The rest is mostly either of Caucasian or African American descent, or a mix of all three of these backgrounds.

Government

Cargill South is governed by a National Executive Team that is hired and reviewed by Cargill Incorporated. There is a Executive Farming Officer, Executive of Distributions, and an Executive Civic Coordinator that lead the country overall.

Defences

Approximately 400 citizens participate in the Cargill Militia within the Cargill South borders. They provide their own guns and help maintain military vehicles. The militia maintains a schedule of 24/7/365 guard posts, and each are given a stipend. Some will work the militia while maintaining their own employment while others merely work the militia while living with family that support the rest of the household. In addition, there are full time security experts that help lead the militia and will make requisition requests directly to Cargill when necessary.

Industry & Trade

Everything in Cargill South is running on the profits of the beef production.

Infrastructure

The entire nation is centered on beef production from live cows, including Angus, Beefalo, and luxury-grade Wagyu. There is local cattle farms as well as a large processing and packaging plant with large-scale distribution.

Assets

Cargill South manages their own beef processing and distribution plant, as well as acres of land for their cattle for a half of dozen breeds, although they also import cattle to process and distribute for a profit. In addition, all employees live within the nation, so there is ample housing and civic service buildings and operations as well.

History

After the Executive Order of 2022, Cargill immediately saw the potential for revenue-saving measures with the help of establishing a sovereign nation. What they didn't expect was to have some of the top leaders of Texas court them into taking over Friona. After a number of closed door meetings establishing investment payoffs and which companies would help establish continued utility services, Cargill announced in a press conference that Cargill South was officially a soverieng nation, announced only a week after their press release confirming Cargill North.
One thing that Cargill depended heavily on was allowing undocumented immigrants who had come from Mexico as well as Central and South America citizenship and employment. There were also a lot of rural United States citizens who eagerly wanted employment with guaranteed housing and benefits. As with many other corporately-founded nations, the allure of minimal bills, no rent, no mortgage and a small community feel attracted them in. Cargill South was in many ways the most engaged of their populace. Neighbors held classes for those struggling with the new English standard. Festivals were arranged by the populace. Support committees were comprised of volunteers keeping up with those whom had fallen ill or suffered a personal loss and would rally the community around them. Even the defenses were maintained by a militia comprised of citizens willing to give their time.
As the 2050s and 2060s began to reveal that lab-grown meatmeat was steadily overtaking the traditional beef market, Cargill South still maintained exceptional profits. Part of it was due to the volunteer work not only lowering some of the operating costs, but also keeping the population happy and working efficiently. In addition, the sales team in Cargill South was distributing to populations who were less likely to trust a lab-grown product, and had leaned in hard on trust and nostalgia during the sales pitch. At the same time, to combat those populations who were more likely to use lab-grown meat as a staple, the sales and advertising teams developed ways to make natural beef production a high-quality exclusive treat. Wagyu and Buffalo offerings were developed in order to be the centerpieces of celebrations.
Cargill South did receive a small bump in their population when Cargill West ceased all production, but unfortunately they were unable to accommodate even a sixth of the working population from their sister nation due to low turnover of positions within their own operations. Over time, some of the Cargillians of the west left because they were overwhelmed by the culture of community involvement, and were more used to a private life. Others ended up embracing it. In the 2070s and 2080s there were fewer immigrants from Cargill North and Cargill East that came over as operations slowed down at their respective nations, but still some came. If there were positions to fill, they were allowed to transfer their experience to one of the few places left in the world where it was applicable. If not, Cargill South did have volunteers try to help them find employment opportunities in other corporate nations, the United States or Mexico.
In 2162, Cargill South is still operating with the same feel-good cutlure that helped maintain it for over a century. However, many outsiders are suspicious as to how they're able to maintain profits as the demand for traditional beef in most nations has steadily declined. The previous decades have had some outside groups investigate, but nothing conclusive has been found. Conspiracies fluctuate from secret exports to insular nations and communities to using humans as a source of sustainable meat.

Architecture

A number of structures, including schools and utility services, are just maintained in a somewhat recognizable version of what they were in the 21st century. Newer homes and buildings are premanufactured white-gray structures, typically with materials that need to be replaced every 30 to 50 years.
A couple of neigborhoods have common homes that were built in the early 2040s by the citizens. These common homes are used and areas for celebration--town festivities for the holidays, marriages and funerals.
