Yerini flowers (ye-rye-nigh)

Naltry boasts many unique and strange living things, like its giant bugs or the unnatural beasts in its jungles, but the most impactful -both culturally and historically- is its flowers. Specifically, the yerini flower, known for its vibrant colors and the dyes produced from it. The plants have an open six-petaled top, reaching a height of just over a foot and coming in a wide variety of colors depending upon the species farmers cultivate for the valuable dyes they can produce. The plants have been farmed in Naltry for thousands of years and are a cultural symbol, with the brilliant dyes becoming synonymous with the region over the millennia.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Yerini flowers regularly release compact pods of seeds meant to float on and be carried by rivers. The pods are also frequently carried by animals whose fur they have attached themselves to with their prickly spikes. The rate of shedding for the pods varies based on the plant's health and access to water, though on farms the rate averages to 30-40 days between drops, most of which farmers collect to plant new crops.

Ecology and Habitats

Yerini's flourish in warm, humid conditions making them ideally suited to Naltry's climate. Wild plants grow most along the banks of The Niin River and around the pools and springs of the region's expansive jungles. They're also cultivated for their dyes on large farms with complex irrigation systems which simulate these conditions.

I really like the impact they have in the area concerning exports. From this article, I expect the people who cultivate this to wear a lot of brightly colored clothing.
