Tunvavvaki (Tune-vav-vock-ee)
The Tunvavvaki are a hearty and tribal people living in Yevelian Ringpeaks. Their society is based around small communities of several thousand people called Ubrashana, located on the scattered and secluded plateaus of The Ringpeaks. They hunt and scavenge to survive primarily, often leaving the sanctuary of their underground homes and hot springs for weeks on end.
Culture
Common Dress code
The bitter cold of The Ringpeaks leads to unique dress requirements among cultures who live there. When outdoors, most wear sewn pelts from the Roshiebosk, a shaggy, goat-like creature that the Tunvavvaki hunt for its meat and hide. These heavy coats are made with pockets sewn from animal bladders to hold hot water to keep the wearer warm. Masks, often decorated with animal horns, are another part of this traditional dress.
Art & Architecture
The unique geography of The Ringpeaks -particularly the Yevelian ones- cause numerous problems for any people trying to settle and survive there, but the Tunvavvaki solve all these problems with -of all things- a plant. They build their Ubrashana around hot springs in some of the larger plateaus, and they do this with the aid of Khuelnosu. The sap of this hearty thistle burns through the Ocharine of The Ringpeaks at a tremendous pace, and this allows them to carve tunnels and homes into it where the fierce winds and cold vastly lessen. These underground tunnels can span large swaths of land, connecting hundreds of homes and halls like a beehive, all heated by the warm waters of the hot springs all around them.
Ideals
Courtship Ideals
Marriage and relationships are both highly structured affairs. Most begin with a formal request and are sealed with a series of rituals. These are often communal and family events, with celebrations and festivities. Once bound, a couple cannot separate till the death of one partner; in such circumstances, the widow can remarry, but that is rare because marriage is a very solemn and serious affair.
Major organizations
The majority of the Tunvavvaki are united under The Great Ubrashana, a sprawling kingdom ruling the The Ringpeaks. This is a recent development in their history, and many effects on society are still only beginning to show, particularly with how they deal with being united as one people for the first time. Much animosity still brews despite the unification, and many feuds and sub-cultural rivalries have grown worse than ever in response.
"The peaks and rivines are our true parents. They shelter us and nurture us, but so to do they force us to change and grow; to become better and strive forward. We learn to master them as we grow, but eventually they shall always welcome us back to their cold embrace, to be born anew and master them again." -Great Gyrrasha Kuglan, 1772; Twelve days preceeding death
