The Chronicles of Beathan

My dear friends, you find yourself on the great northern continent of Beathan. Named after the old elven word for white hills, it is a land of snowy mountaintops and icy valleys, of roaring steppes and ancient forests, of dreary swamps and titanic lochs glistening in the light of a northern sun. It is a cold and harsh land and its people are its dreary mirror image.   Yet the people that call this land home carry within themselves a romantic wildness that is truly like no other. They have forged this land through fire and steel. One after another, great empires have risen nurtured from its harsh lands. And one after another they have fallen as another took their place.   The Ebhian Empire, the last to claim command over the continent, was no different. Born from the unity between dwarves, elves and men they had banished a world of chaos and myth to the annals of history and replaced it with a world of law and order. For more than a thousand years their moonlit capital had been at the center of discovery, culture and art and crowned itself the apex of civilization. And yet they fell all the same.   Now the lands of Beathan are divided, torn apart by years of civil war and grievances so old that they are core to the spirit of their peoples. Some claim themselves successors, hoping to one day reclaim what has been lost. Others tell a story of liberation as they march with the purpose to break the old world and end the story of an empire that never was theirs in the first place.   And then there is you: a ragtag group of adventurers, nothing uniting you but your empty pockets and the hope that together you can change this world for the better. Will you unite these lands and help them stand together against those who would see them fall to darkness?   Or will you be the embers that doom yet another era to a fiery death?
