Split Dimensions

Overview

An ancient war between chaos and order fragmented reality itself irreparably. Before, there was but one dimensional plane, The Frontier, which all beings lived on as equals. When The Frontier was fragmented, each piece reformed into its own independent dimension, creating what are now known as the three Primary Dimensions, and infinitely many smaller Subdimensions, each wholly unique from the other.

Manifestation

The Universe as it is known now is balanced between three dimensions, which allow Mortals to live and function within it. The three Primary Dimensions (also known as Worlds) each equally create and maintain The Universe, and all three Worlds are needed in order for it to continue to function. Each World has a steward, who looks after that specific Dimension. This is mostly a formality however, as each Dimension is made to be self sufficient.

The Three Worlds

• World of Mind: A dimension which is a comprehensive catalog of all thoughts, inventions, and memories ever experienced in the history of the Universe. Imaginations and Dreams are experienced within this Dimension. The Steward of this world is Loreweaver, tasked with maintaining all logs of thought for eternity.
• World of Body: A dimension that maintains the physical state of all objects in the Universe, allowing new creations to be born, grow, and eventually decay before repeating this process. This world is overseen by Songweaver, whose melodies soothe the hollowed corpses of the dead, allowing them final rest as their bodies are broken down and remade.
• World of Soul: A dimension that carries the personality, emotions, and motivations of everything living thing. The entire Dimension is made up of detached Soul Threads, waiting to be woven into a new being. To that end, Soulweaver watches over the world, helping to sow the Souls of fallen mortals into new vessels to be reborn.
• Subdimensions: Aside from the three Primary Dimensions, there are infinitely many smaller Dimensions known as Subdimensions, which orbit around the three Worlds. These Subdimensions are smaller fragments of The Frontier, and as such were flung farther out from the Universe, having much less of a tie to it as the Primary Dimensions. Some Subdimensions have very close ties to one or more of the Primary Dimensions, such as the Dream Dimension, which is linked directly to the World of Mind. It is important to note also that on some Subdimensions, certain lifeforms are able to propagate and thrive thanks to their unique conditions. The leading example would be Shadons, a species composed entirely of shadow, who hail from the Dark Dimension.

Localization

Travel between Dimensions is typically virtually impossible. However, there are still links which connect all Dimensions together that are invisible to the naked eye, known as Dimensional Tears. It is possible to develop a sensitivity to these tears, making them detectable, at which point it simply requires knowledge of how to interact between these tears to travel back and forth between them. Most Dimensional Tears are not permanently fixed however, and could move or disappear completely at a moment's notice. It is possible to create artificial tears, however, though these typically have very limited range compared to those that occur naturally.
Additionally, it is also possible to become trapped within one of the Three Primary Dimensions. This can happen if one of an individual's aspects is irreparably damaged: Mind, Body, or Soul. A mortal cannot survive in the Universe without all three of these aspects, and damaging or losing one entirely can lead to catastrophic results if not corrected. In moments of desperation, an individual may be banished to the Dimension which they had damaged, in hopes of having it repaired. If they are unable or unwilling to do so, they will have no choice but to spend the rest of eternity trapped within that world.
