Mulholland Dynasty

By far the single most influential family in the contemporary galaxy, the Mulhollands are the ruling dynasty of the Sundow Group.    Mercury leads the dynasty and the main branch of the family. His siblings, Bacchus, Venus, and Mars, and their children, form the main branch of the family. With Mercury childless, it appears that one of his many nieces or nephews will take his place as the head of the Dynasty. Whether or not the Dynasty continues to lead the Sundow Group, however, may not be so certain.

Culture

The Mulhollands are an enigma. At once, they are the brutal water lords of Joshua* and western Cishadar in general. But also, they are magnanimous philanthropists, spending several lifetime fortunes through the entire galaxy on a daily basis.    The Dynasty, unlike the other families of the Group, are not overtly public. Their lives are mostly a mystery to the rest of the Chord. Where the Malikoi and Valcour glamorize themselves and their progeny, the Mulhollands remain aloof. Outside of the occasional outing, the entire dynasty remains confined within the large Mulholland estate on Erebo.

Public Agenda

Overall, each of the Dynasties seeks to spread their business, supposedly for the betterment of the Chord overall. The Mulhollands are no exception. But while they don't state such things aloud, it is plain to see that what the dynasty really wants is to hold onto power. They are the most powerful people in the Chord, and therefore have the most to lose of all of us.

Assets

The landmass of Erebo and the wealth of Joshua* may belong to the Sundow Group, but the water still belongs to the Mulhollands. Through Neptune's business deals and logistics prowess, they now have a complete monopoly on the greatest source of water in the 4 closest star systems. But before they owned the source, the Mulhollands owned Angeles Life Systems, the largest water logistics and life support corporation in all the Chord.   And the crown jewel of Mulholland power is the CTS Hobbsmith. Yes, they own their own Tohoro-class Star Liner. While the Concordance technically owns the vessel, as they do all CTS ships, they have little influence beyond their viceroy aboard. Also escorting the Hob is the dynasty's best PMC, Lippincott. In all but name, the ship belongs to the Mulholland Dynasty, and they happily flaunt this fact to the other dynasties of Sundow.

History

The Mulhollands trace their lineage not to warriors of the Century of Liberation, as the Sundow and Bolivar do. Nor are they connected to the wealthy elite of the contacted peoples, such as the Yehe or Malikoi. No, the Mulhollands have a much more humble upbringing. In fact, the history of the Dynasty isn't much more than that of it's founder. Neptune, the family patriarch, traces his roots to humble Concordian workers onboard the CTS Hobbsmith  In fact, it was by working in the Transit System, first as an engineer for communication bottle-ships and then eventually a part owner of the Hob, that Neptune set the family on it's path to unimaginable wealth. Neptune first found prominence working with the now-infamous Talos Corporation, constructing the latest generation of bottle ships and sending his wages back to the Mulholland family on the Hob. After Talos's disbandment in 840, Neptune returned to the Hob as an accomplished sailor and logistician. Upon his return, he purchased a few old runner-ships, and got into water logistics.    Over the next 30 years of Neptune's career, his business exploded. Soon, he found himself on the Hob's board in 846. At this time, a refinement in HDR and propulsion technologies were making waves in the transportation sector. Neptune successfully rode that wave into unfathomable success. By 869, Neptune owned not only the largest water logistics company in the Chord, but its chief source: Erebo, the water planet at the center of the human world. Just 3 years later, Neptune and his family would be offered a position in the modern Sundow Group.
