Huitzlian

The peoples of Huitzli* mostly consolidate themselves into two separate cultures - each at odds with the other.    When most people speak of Huitzlian culture, they usually mean Iccauhtlian - named for the primary habitable planet in Huitzli*. This culture, grown out from the survivors of the Ameselan invasion, rests on a burning hatred of the Ameselans. When liberated, most survivors joined the Concordian crusade to wipe out their oppressors. This strand became the main strand of Huitzlian culture. To this day, Iccauhtlian Huitzlians are seen as intrinsically vengeful and violent.   While much of this is stereotype, there is a truth to it. Most Iccauhtlian children receive a knife at a young age to keep for the rest of their lives. The tradition goes all the way back to the century of Ameselan dominion. Flourishes and martial prowess are respected in the culture, though this often gives outsiders an impression of violence.    When Concordians offered revenge-through-genocide, however, not every Huitzlian took them up on the offer. Some simply wanted to rebuild and move on. Some even said that the Ameselans had a right to exist, even separate from the rest of the galaxy. These "cowardly" Huitzlians soon found themselves ostracized from the rest of their rebuilding society. They all either fell in line, died, or fled their home planet.    These Yokoiccauhtlians, as they are now known, left their planet to form colonies across Huitzli* and Concordia*, and eventually the rest of the Chord as it opened to them. Today, living in space outside of major gravity wells has slowly changed their physiology. "Yokos" are known for their long, thin statures, and their natural grace in null gravity. As a people, they tend to be pacifist and aloof from worldly affairs, keeping to themselves and their celestial compounds.
