Huitzli*

What Huitzli* was before the Slow Age, we may never know. Likewise, Huitzli* before the Ameselans is obscured. All knowledge of before comes from what little contact Concordia had with them pre-invasion. They were a proud, sophisticated culture. Nothing like Concordia, the Concordians say. They lost to the Ameselans after all, but proud and sophisticated nonetheless.    Their people were in shambles when the Concordians arrived. Only a scant amount of natives still resisted the Ameselans; most had been either enthralled to their service, or become collaborators happy to retain some individuality. Rebuilding afterwards was quite the task, especially in wartime, but it was worth it.   Today, Huitzli* is one of the most important systems in the Chord, aside from Concordia* of course.

Geography

Huitzli* is a system dancing lovers, geographically speaking. Iccauhtli, the primary habitable planet in the system, has a moon of comparable size, Teica, large enough that the two orbit each other. On top of that, Iccauhtli and Teica both orbit Huitzli, the largest star in the Chord with habitable planets, which is itself still part of a binary pair. Planet and moon orbit each other, which orbits a star, which orbits another star. Cycles in cycles in cycles...   Iccauhtli is a warm planet, but actually on the far end of Huitzli's habitable zone. It is the volcanism that the binary planets induce in each other that keeps Iccauhtli so hot and humid. This main world of Huitzli* is covered in millions of lakes, with every landmass connected in some way. While there are salty inland seas that rival small oceans on other planets, the worlds own geography is unlike any other.   Teica, while warmed by its bigger brother, retains plenty of heat with its own hothouse atmosphere. With a carbon dioxide atmosphere orders of magnitude thicker than any habitable planet has, a runaway greenhouse effect keeps Teica hot enough to melt lead. This is on the surface, at least. In the clouds, there exists a habitable atmosphere, so the people of Huitzli* long ago built sky cities to enjoy it. These sky cities were the sky fortresses of the Ameselans during their 120 year occupation, and they are believed to have constructed them in the first place.   And, of course, there is the brother's artificial sun.

Ecosystem

Life on the planet Iccauhtli is extremely diverse. Most of the planet is covered in jungles, up to its poles. In addition, the planet is extremely wet, and is covered in millions of lakes and puddles.

Localized Phenomena

Iccahtli once had two HDR Powerplants sucking energy from the Flow for their use. Unlike the flashy, new "lightning bolt" HDR plants over Concordia or Carolus, Iccauhtli could only afford the old-fashioned "ball and chord" - the planetary HDR itself was built into a geosynchronous satellite, with an ugly chord dangling like a tentacle to the earth. It least it did, until the chord cut. The nations of Huitzli* still aren't sure how, but with no where for the energy to go, and no way to disable the HDR, it simply continued to put out energy until it started glowing. It has never stopped since, though its orbit has been raised and slowed so everyone can see their new sun.   It is expected to reach the Pixel temperature in approximately 1.7 billion years, by which it will outshine both stars in its system.

History

The history of Huitzli* and the planet Iccauhtli are relatively unknown before the Ameselan invasion of 147. The culture and peoples of the system were pushed to the brink of extinction by a century of occupation. What little of Huitzli*'s history remains comes from Iccauhtlian resistance fighters, native Ameselan collaborators (who were themselves purged in the liberation), and light-delayed transmissions to Concordia* pre-invasion.    From these sources, civilization in Huitzli* appears remarkably similar to that of Concordia*. Littered with old human ruins, and similarly ignorant of the ancient human empire of the first Stellar Era,
