The {Spike Lord}

One of the most menacing creatures of the Subselar Boundary of the Castraversi, the Spike Lord makes travel between the Planar of Otapi and its many Selars difficult for the non-initiated, such as those on their first voyages through the divide. The {Spike Lord} is a dominant predator in the confluent energies that inherit the space between the many settlements of the Ara. The original phratries of the Ara are aware of this predator's existence and make sure to warn travelers to the best of their ability about the inherent danger of this species but most tend to find out about the Spike Lords by experience rather than by the warnings they receive. Due to the fact the species finds it easier to build their nests on Planars or Selars, they are seen by settlements far more than they are seen in the Subselar, which they actually use as hunting grounds for prey they subsist in that flow of cosmic energy. Their preferred home is near volcanic activity and they are most active in Subselar Energy Storms, where they find their prey of preference. Most travelers between Selars and Planars struggle to prevent Spike Lord attacks, the species is quite powerful and adaptive, often learning within a generation how to attack and cause damage to the newest vessels for travel between settlements. The beast is hard to describe, recognized by its bioluminescence and its multi-layered bone-hard spikes, a strange natural phenomenon that has been observed by Yirimoth scholars, revealing that the spikes have spikes of their own. The absolute ubiquity in which this species is featured in the legends of the Ara and the danger it presents has allowed it to exist in many rumors, and some even say this is why the entire Framework is colloquially referred to as the Leviathan, as a sort of reference to this menacing beast.
