Personal history
Born to a family of acolytes, Galter grew tending to the King’s personal shrine. He was well liked around the castle, and, despite being little more than a servant in rank, was known to almost everyone in the castle. Galter was naturally charismatic, but was unhappy. He detested having to care for a shrine constantly, king’s or not, and so, at the age of 13, decided to become a knight.
Which he actually did, surprisingly, convincing a knight to take him on as a squire after the knight stayed in the castle. He put the cleaning and care taking skills he had learnt to use for 3 years, until his knight was called to battle. The night after the day they came to camp, assassins snuck into the camp, slitting the throats of many of the knights and lighting their tents ablaze.
In the chaos, Galter shone. He rallied the troops, now leaderless after their captain had taken an arrow through the skull, and chased after the assassins. With little more than the clothes on his back and a carving knife, Galter killed 6 of the assassins. It is said that his blade shone radiantly gold that night, and afterwards he was recruited directly by the king for a battle-preist training program.
Galter expelled at this, and, after his second battle, made captain. He campaigned successfully for 3 years, ‘till the war ended, then retired. He donated much of what he owed to charity, and maintained his popularity until he began his rebellion against the sorcerer king, wherein he lost a large chunk of his folowing, as they still believed in the total power of the crown.
