Chaos lizard's feast - Pilgrimage's End
If one tried to cook using the chaos lizard's meat normally, they would quickly discover that it seems to be impossible to change the properties it retained even after the death of the lizard. Its taste, temperature, chewiness, hardness, and consistency depend on the anomalies it consumed and didn't use up before it died. On the other hand, the chaos lizard that hasn't fed on any anomaly or used up all of the properties is way too small to feed even a child.
But as the 4 orders of Students of The Smith discovered, there are some ways the meat can be prepared that make it more edible and even tasty. Members of the 4 orders often have to depend on those ways of preparation to survive in environments full of anomalies, where finding other meat could prove difficult.
Once the new Student of The Smith finishes their Pilgrimage, finally visits the last of the four orders, and spends at least a month learning from them, the members of the order they visit last throw them a great feast. The first meal they get to eat is the meat of the chaos lizard prepared by the cooks of that order, which is the first of the two last steps of them becoming the full-fledged member of the order.
Preparing the meat
Each of the 4 orders has a different way to prepare the meat of the chaos lizard. Because of that, the taste of the final product greatly varies. This has sometimes started fights between members of different orders who couldn't agree on the best way to prepare it.White Order - hermits
Living close to anomalies every day, members of the White Order discovered that when the meat is placed in various different anomalies, usually the ones with opposite effects to the ones the lizard consumed, and at the end, it is placed inside a fire anomaly, one can neutralize most dangerous effects of the meat while keeping some of the unusual flavors.Red Order - breakers
The "breaker" order found a way to completely strip the anomalous properties of the meat of the lizard without reducing its size. Once it is done, one can cook or grill the meat normally.Blue Order - tamers
Cooks of the Blue Order use the anomalies the lizard has consumed to make the taste of the dish more unique. By manipulating the anomalous properties and their strength, the meat can be prepared without using any cooking tools or fire.Green Order - scholars
The Green Order uses the knowledge they gathered by studying the anomalies and previous cultures which lived in The Pit. By pressing, cutting, and putting pressure in specific places, they found ways to "extract" parts of anomalies from lizard's meat. The meat then can be both cooked normally while still keeping some of its unusual taste and texture.Philip knew that he was ready to pick one of the four orders. He brought his hand towards his shoulder were four, colorful strips were hanging. This gesture made people around him fall silent. With a quick pull, he got rid of three of the strings. People around him started cheering seeing his choice. From now on, he was a member of the White Order.
It's been a month since Philip arrived at White Order's settlement. He lived with them and learned their ways. Once he was ready, he contacted their leader to tell them his Pilgrimage was over. That night, a great feast was made in his name. Before any dances and games, the cooks of the tribe brought him a dish made out of the chaos lizard's meat. There were some small blue sparks coming from it. He ate it. The meat was delicious. Each time it touched his tongue, it felt as if it was sprayed with fizzy powder, crackling, and popping. He still had a hard decision to make. Which of the four orders should he join?
