The Merid's Song
The Merid's Song is the largest taverna in the port of Entalles on Isla Basada. Named for the legendary sea creature of Avadian legend, it is a popular place to stay for visitors to the town.
Currently run by Telis of Entalles, a genial former bounty hunter in his twilight years who purchased the taverna and renovated it in 455 TE, the taverna is known for its dark rum and its surprisingly diverse menu, including pork from the wild pigs of the island, fish caught from the waters, laden with spices, flatbreads, and a spiced peanut sauce said to be given to Telis by a Magantine monk during his exploits. The lodgings in the taverna are basic but clean, able to tend both to single travelers and whole crews.
Purpose / Function
The Merid's Song is an Avadian taverna. Like many of the tavernas in smaller Avadian settlements and islands, in addition to serving as a place for passing merchants and sailors to eat, drink and sleep, it also serves as a convenient meeting point for crews to recruit and take up new contracts as well as sharing news and information in the area.
Alterations
The Merid's Song has expanded considerably over its near-200-year history. Most prominently it has expanded from its original function as a place for food and drink to include accommodation for visitors to Entalles. To this end, two storeys have been added above the main building and its undercroft to accommodate these visitors.
Architecture
Like most Avadian buildings, the Merid's Song is built of white-washed limestone. It is a square-shaped building, with three storeys above ground; the top two dedicated to accommodation, the main hall to receive guests, and a large undercroft below where meals and drinks are served.
Tourism
Unsurprisingly, the Merid's Song draws in a lot of travelers and merchants. The majority of the clientele are Avadian sailors, but intrepid explorers from other areas throughout Arikanda can be found here, with Tanorites and Sapphrans a semi-common sight. As Entalles is a common gateway to northern Calina, visitors from Solathi and Maganti are not unheard of.
