Peoples and Cultures

"I could travel another century and I still wouldn't know half of what there is to know about the peoples of the world."
-Katanya Xira, a legendary Avadian explorer.
  Annyrion is home to a vast number of peoples and cultures; some who have entered their current form recently, and some who have been present for millenia. They vary in influence and power; from the independent tribes of the Wessuth and Ranata, all the way up to monolithic, all-encompassing cultures such as the Kalriv or Avadians. While there are hundreds of subsets of some cultures, it is possible to group most of them under a small number of unified cultural banners, usually based off religious, geographic, philosophical, anthropological or sociopolitical ties.   Most of the major cultures across the known world are firmly in Bronze Age levels of technology and knowledge, and even those who did not enter it organically have adapted the technologies through their interactions with other cultures.

Arikandan Cultures

  The primary cultures present on Arikanda are;
  • The Kalriv, a martial, monotheistic culture originating from the Venderan Desert and now found throughout the Sapphire Coast.
  • Avadians, the original inhabitants of the Beyan Archipelago, known for their maritime and mercantile dominance and unified culture.
  • Tanorites, the people of Tanoron in central-southern Arikanda, known for their agricultural prowess and the source of the Elementalist faith that dominates southern Arikanda.
  • Sapphrans, the people of the southern Sapphire Coast, who are known for their advanced urban infrastructure.
  • Heartlanders, the peoples of the many small city-states and kingdoms of the Heartlands, who are known for their unified system of philosophy and industrious nature almost as much as their infighting.
  • The Wessuth, a collection of small tribes both settled and wandering in the Arikandan Unknown and Siellar Range.
  • The Kjor, a more sedentary and unified version of the Wessuth who have developed their own distinct cultural identity.

Calinan Cultures

  The primary cultures present on the continent of Calina are;
  • The Calinani, the original inhabitants of northern Calina, who can be found throughout the north.
  • Magantines, a people of combined Calinani and Avadian descent settled in the city-state of Maganti.
