Irkalla

Geography

The First Circle is entirely occupied by a thick, sentient fog that spreads everywhere except Xerata's fortress. The circle itself is a giant moor of dull grey grass. The fog obscures the vision of its inhabitants and produces illusions that slowly drive them insane as they are forced to wander aimlessly for an eternity.

Fauna & Flora

The circle is inhabited by lost mortal souls who are well on their way to becoming Nightwraiths, ghasts and geists. All ethereal undead wander the first circle. Other demons live within, but are consigned to Xerata's dungeon to avoid the fog and to guard their ruler from making an escape attempt. These demons are the spider-like jorogumo, the kelpie and the serpentine Bakunawa. The fog itself is the dormant Leviathan, the Archfiend of Envy. His body acts similar to an ethereal ocean, birthing ghost-like krakens and sea monsters that will eventually rise to the surface and wreak havoc on the waters. Other notable figures who originate from here include Scylla and Jormungandr, the world serpent.
