81 (Assassins) Organization in The Burning Coast | World Anvil

81 (Assassins)

81 is one of the oldest Guilds in Beltienne and actually were founded as a guild of weavers originally called "Geroud's 81" after a masterpiece created by their founder - a tapestry depicting an ancient battle between the Si-Sienna Elven Empire and Chaotic Princes who ruled Tizen at that time (that battle being the fabled reason that order was separated from chaos which allowed the minor races on Tizen to rise and prosper). The tapestry took Geroud five years to complete and contained no less than 81 strands of silk for every patch of tapestry the size of Geroud's fingertip.   The Lord that Geroud created this masterpiece for had made many enemies and one, in particular, was jealous at the lavish gift and ordered Geroud to be assassinated and his masterpiece destroyed.   A guild friendly to Geroud's 81 (an early Thieves Guild) learned of the impending assassination and attempted to thwart the plan - they were unsuccessful at spirit Geroud away before he was killed but the tapestry was saved and given to the remaining leaders of guild and the thieves promised that they would help exact revenge on the Lord.   The two guilds joined together and named themselves "81" in memory of their fallen leader and the tapstry that was the cause of his untimely death.   Now, hundreds of years later, it is said that the members of 81 each carry a tiny piece of the original masterpiece and continue as one of the most power guilds of assassins on the Burning Coast.

Structure

81 is governed by a leader who has proven their skills and experience and who has (most importantly) gained the respect of their brothers and sisters. They are assisted by their "small council" of 5 - each one responsible for an aspect of their business and tradecraft.

Public Agenda

They are one of the only accepted guilds of assassins on the continent of Kylaria and play a heavy role in the security of Beltienne.
