Gallian Trading Gangs
The Gallian Trading Gangs originated on Gall V but started to operate throughout the Bubble from around 2505.
Gang culture is a complex one; part religion, part commercial philosophy and part political ideology. Although they maintain a loose affiliation the individual gangs are fiercely independent and competitive. Initially they were only quasi legal, having something of the character of organised crime syndicates. They use elements of a modified voodoo in their ceremonies and they have a strange sense of honour.
Gallian Trading Gangs went on to become one of the more important aspects of Republican power when the fledgling break away from the Solar Group was looking for alternatives to the Great Commercial League.
The major gangs include the Te-aikará gang originating in the city of Sea Light (who have important interests on New Cambria), the Dark Knock gang, natives of the city of Xess, the Whispering Smoke gang, based in the city of Hope Landing and the A’spojeena who originated in the Swiftfield docklands and became an important mercantile player on Greenlush.
The image at the head of the article is a holoppo harvester's depot, belonging to the Whispering Smoke gang. They run a number of operations gathering the red and white flowers of holoppo from the swamp lands around the Monsieur d'Embarass lagoon in the south east of Xess because it can be processed to extract the hallucinogenic drug, known as Red Seethe.
