Here is an extract from the conclusion to the seventh chapter, which discusses the fall of the fourth dynasty of
the resource management world government.
These then were the fruits of Injaman’s philosophy, expressed in the fourth dynasty of the Resource Management World Government; fear, terror and paranoia. The Earth was paralysed and aggressive, thrashing out from the centre of the Solar Group like a feeble and irritable old invalid shaking with spasms of illogical rage. It had to come to an end. But what are we to make of Achmed Shankar’s return from Silusia-Alpha?
We have, of course, that strange document the so-called ‘Nine Meditations’, a much studied and much misunderstood testimony. Samizdat copies have been independently dated to as early as 2535 in widespread and influential electronic hosts. By the middle of the following decade the ‘Nine Meditations’ had all but reached the status of a gospel for the leader of the new government. Who, now, can seriously credit the messianic delusions of its author? Yet as it spread in secret over the continents of the Earth it was taken seriously by people ready for change. Did Achmed Shankar really have the ill-defined powers of persuasion that he claimed? Certainly the death of the 4th dynasty was swift and comprehensive, but when a body is riddled with cancer, a mercy killing may provoke no resistance. And if he had this alien power, how did he acquire it? Why, of all the pilgrims who had gone before was Achmed Shankar the only one to attain the full spectrum enlightenment? In between the boasting and the inconsistent fake humility of his account he all but admits that he had no special spirituality.
One obvious possibility suggests itself - that the Light Guards engineered Shankar’s success. We know only a little about the relationship between the thinderin and the viwodian in those days. Yet it is certain that contacts existed, and where contacts exist, plans can be made. Achmed Shankar’s escape could not have happened without the aid of the viwodian embassies on Earth. Perhaps certain alien agencies conspired to grant him success in the Amnyine Temple also? Perhaps. In fact, it seems more than likely. But if they ever plotted such interference, no party has confessed to it in the eight hundred years that lie between us and the age of Achmed Shankar. Any indirect evidence that might be obtained from investigations at the site must wait. Following the unfortunate conflict at the Temple, human visitors were forbidden access to Silusia Alpha, a prohibition which remains in force to this day.
Finally, let us remember that there were many for whom the collapse of the fourth dynasty of the resource management world government was every bit as agonising as its rise had been. Of fundamental significance, however, is that these tumults were largely confined to the peoples of Earth. When Achmed Shankar returned from exile and cast down his tormentors he turned the attention of Gaia inwards, seeking spiritual renewal and healing. The colonies began to breath in freedom, for the days of the Zed men were over.
The eventual breakup of the first pilgrim council of the fifth dynasty and the death of Shankar proved to be less relevant than might have been thought at the time. By then, an irrational, capricious and violent regime had already been brought to an end and once the squabbles of succession eventually settled down, it was a much humbler and more reflective Earth that remained. The long contemplative silence of the sixth dynasty of the Resource Management World Government had begun.
