Ul'dah
History
Former Base
The Gardens beginnings would seem fairly humble to most. Packed within the sweltering heat of the Goblet far before its reconstruction stood a simple tea house. The house was under the care of Isanami and Jun; the later of which was the company's leader at the time. While the tea served as a front, the main focus of the house would not lie with hot beverages and leaves, but instead the trading and gathering of information. To the early Garden there was no secret that did not carry a price, nor knowledge that could not be obtained with sufficient work. Beyond the reaches of the common guest, one could find shelves stacked to the brim with records, ledgers, journals and the like. Filled with secrets, blackmail, and forbidden knowledge, that for the right price one man could use to ruin another. Blackmail along with the occasional slip of gil to the right personage was what kept the brass blades under thumb; unable to act and far from their doorstep. While being information brokers foremost, the company would also perform regular jobs. Its members were more then fit to serve as both guards, explorers and hunters of various goods. These services would keep the company steady and afloat for a long time. With the brokering of information, and the contacts who supported their activities, there was nary a concern as far as finances were concerned. Then came the first strike. Celebrating their recent success at the high class gourmet restaurant “The Bismark”, the gathered enjoyed a semblance of relaxation. Jun’s trembling hands finding themselves pressed tightly against her linkshell listening to the report being made before calling the rest of the officers. Their Eastern branch had come under attack. What followed were hurried preparations. Time was of the essence and not a single precious minute was to be wasted. Attempts at procuring a vessel of their own had met with failure, finding it broken and beyond repair. It fell to the company to find a proper ship which could charter them for the lengthy journey towards the far east. Large sums hastily traded hands. Their actions had to be done with urgency while also eluding the eyes of the enemy, The Hirata. When more strikes begun to happen in rapid succession, it was clear that even in the west they were being targeted. Knowing the enemy that the company now faced, Jun would not dare any risks. Fearing that the tea house would be struck in their absence, the house was sold and the Gardens presence all but erased. With no ties keeping them stuck in Eorzea, and with a crew prepared to carry them towards the East. The Garden bid farewell to the location which they had called home for so long before setting off to rescue the eastern branch and strike back at the Hirata.Relationship with the Garden
The disastrous flight from the east had proved taxing in more than a few ways. While the Companies storage of supplies, fuel and gil had all but run dry, the greater problem was the state of the vessel itself. The final remnants of their enemies within the east had taken the opportunity upon the Roci’s departure to launch one final massive offensive. Finding themselves in a dogfight over the Sirensong Sea, the ship weathered through the aerial assault of the enemy airship’s artillery. Numerous times it had looked like the Garden would meet its end, but through the skill of the crew and its captain they had persevered through the storm. Sounds of the emergency sirens mixing with the rumbling bending of metal, the crew held on for dear life as they came to scrape against the Thanalanian sands. Resting on top of the piling dunes, a call would be made. The ship had survived the emergency landing but it would go no further. A request was sent to the State of Ul’dah for aid with ferrying the downed airship into one of the cities’ docks. On arrival they had few options. Many of their previous contacts from the time in Eorzea refused to aid; many still regarding the Garden as enemies or dangerous individuals. A’kata, the newly dubbed leader of the company and the Captain of the Rocinante, worked tirelessly alongside her trusted few to procure work and the desperately needed funds for the ships repair. Slowly but surely repairs had begun to come under way. Through both crew and its leadership’s hard work they had managed to survive, and none amongst them would let that go to waste. While now a far cry from the prestige the Garden had once held, every one of their numbers were determined to set them back on the path and so work flowed. The gil earned through their contracts were eagerly funneled into the repairs of the Rocinante. Hearing that they had been making a small name for themselves as mercenaries, they soon began to look for bigger fish. Syndicate members, seeing some promise in the crew, had issued a mission of hurried importance. A member’s son was being held for ransom and so the Garden was sent to collect the boy. Plans went awry and through series of missteps the boy ended up dead, leaving the grieving father little else but to dismiss them. It was a massive blow to their already fragile reputation. Trying to put the unfortunate incident behind them, the Garden continued to perform the various jobs offered in the city. The Syndicate still saw some slight promise in them and offered the crew another task. It was to be a simple mission; collect a shipment of puppies which had been waylaid somewhere in Thanalan. Acknowledging the ease of the mission the captain handed responsabilites over. She and another amongst the senior crew moved to tackle other taxing items which had been plaguing them. They could not have known that the simple mission would prove to be the undoing of the company's relations with Ul’dah. Finding and collecting the puppies had proven little challenge for the Gardens crew. Upon their return to the contractor, a question was posed. What was he going to with the puppies? Not thinking much of it, the membership received a honest answer. Ul'dah's noble society were always striving to one up one another, and the pelts from the small canines were to be used to make a fine coat for one of the member’s next social outing. The revelation caused a massive divide in the gathered force. Some spoke for finishing the mission and getting it over with, while the rest outright refused. Standing defiant and threatening the rest whom were gathered, the protestors swore harm to any who dare try to hand over the puppies. Debating for several minutes until the contractors patience finally wore thin, he demanded they hand over the would be cargo. Finding a sword pointed at his person and the crew backing away with puppies cradled in their arms, a threat was given that if he were to try anything they would strike him down. The ramification to the aptly dubbed “Puppy incident” ended with them having a strained relationships with the Syndicate. The Garden would find themselves receiving excessive docking fees with the Rocinante, as well as hindrance towards any operations attempted within the cities walls. The Consortium later aided in reducing these to a degree.Government:
