The Nymian Vault Arc

Chronicler Kayne

Prologue

Chronicler's Report 22nd Sun, Second Umbral Moon
The Rocinante was called to action against a contingent of Garlean vessels aiming to reinforce Castrium Marinium. We answered the call joining Limsan and Ishguardian ships to engage the Galreans.     A'kata manned the helm and all crew prepared for the assault. Catherina manned the shield generator and placed Ashe in charge of a team to repel boarders and Emeline in charge of her healers. Other crew members manned the guns and the attack began. A separate team lead by Mafrea prepared to board an enemy vessel.   The boarding party fought their way into the Garlean engine room where Mafrea and Yukiteru began an assault on the engines while the rest of the team covered their attack. Meanwhile on the Rocinante Ashe and her team held off a Garlean boarding party and then were tasked with other damage control activities such as aiding the healers and putting out fires. The team on the guns succeeded in sinking two Garlean frigates. One shot hit the engine room of the vessel the boarding party was on effectively taking down the vessel and causing heavy damage to the boarding party.   The party assisted each other to Garlean escape craft and jettisoned from the vessel. The Rocinante sustained moderate damage and is now in dry docks awaiting repair. During the battle Aster passed. He fought borders and took a few hard hits then worked to put out fires. The combined strain of these activities proved to be too much and attempts to resuscitate him were not successful.

The Wreck of the Calendula

Chronicler's Report 30th Sun, Second Umbral Moon
The crew followed a map found by the Shadows to a sunken ship, a Nymian vessel called The Calendula. Great treasure was rumoured to be held on the ship which was broken in two and rested in an octomammoth lair.   The crew split into three teams. One team, lead by Catherina, was tasked with luring the octomammoths away from the halves of the ship to allow the other two teams to explore. This team gained the octomammoths attention with the use of Locke's explosives. The team then engaged the beasts until the other teams had extracted.   One of the exploration teams, lead by A'kathali, looted the bow of the ship. They found a book encased in crystal, and a cylinder shaped object that seemed to be missing parts of it. They ran into trouble when a shark attacked Z'ylarix, but they managed to kill it and save her. The third team, lead by Aifread, found the stern of the ship. They found ancient Nymian silks, a key, a figure of Oschon, and a ritual dagger. They had to make a quick escape as a kraken and a mutated sea beast began to fight outside, attracted by the blast the team used to break into the ship's stern.

The Nymian Research Site

Chronicler's Report 12th Sun, Third Astral Moon
The location of a Nymian vault was discovered in a journal translated by Jun and other scholars. We embarked on an expedition to find this vault and see what secrets and treasures it held. Upon arriving at the destination we were greeted with Nymian writings and a path leading to a cave. The cave opened up into a large area with a triangle shaped platform over a pit of turbulent water. It was clear that falling into the water would mean certain death.   At each point of the triangle was a tablet with knobs and some Nymain text. The tablets controlled the water and we had to use the knobs in a certain order to continue to the vault. We split into three groups, each taking a tablet to try and figure out the puzzle. Each failure was met with a flow of water that threatened to send the teams into the pit below. Emeline's group seemed the most successful, with Mafrea using magic to divert the flow of the water and offer the group some safety. Catherina's and Z'ylarix's group did not have such luck; almost losing members multiple times to the waters below. Z'ylarix and Rosette did fall but the teams finished the puzzle almost immediately. With the waters diver, it allowed access to the vault entrance in the middle of the triangle, sparing the two from the waters.   At the vault's entrance, a key that had been found on the Calendula was tried. There were pieces missing and after a failed attempt by Corsa'ir to break in by force, the group left with the intent to return once the pieces were found.

The Wanderer's Palace

Chronicler's Report 26th Sun, Third Astral Moon
Our Nymian expedition continued. We sent three groups after different leads with the hope of finding at least one of the missing pieces of the key to the vault.   Catherina lead a group into a set of ruins near the Wanderer's Palace called the Thousand Hall of Oschon. The maze like structure was filled with traps and illusions. The group had little trouble with these, eventually retrieving the red stone hidden within.   Mafrea's group did not have such luck. They explored the library in the upper floors of the Wanderer's Palace in hopes of finding information on the gems in question, but ran afoul of tonberries. Initially, diplomacy was attempted but the tonberries immediately became aggressive. Jaran blocked off some of the creature's reinforcements by collapsing their tunnels with explosives. The group defeated the few in their immediate vicinity but had to pull back as a large gathering of the beasties approached with an estimated strength of fifteen to twenty tonberries. Stealth is recommended for future excursions.   The third group, lead by Emeline, went to a village in La Noscea where there were rumours of a cult of Nym. Through speaking with the villagers the group learnt of the location of a ruin where the cult would most likely be stationed. A local teen attacked Mystalice and, after being knocked out, was discovered to be one of the cult by virtue of a cultist coin she held. The group made their way to the ruins where Corsa'ir and Y'dela snuck in and looted the cultist's base while the rest of the group provided distraction. The team retrieved two cultist coins, coded messages, a ceremonial dagger, and a ceremonial mask.

The Second Delve

Chronicler's Report 2th Sun, Third Umbral Moon
We once again split into three group to further search for the pieces of the key. A team was once again sent to the tonberry infested library in the hopes of finding what was missed previously. Despite some continued issues with sneaking through the area, the team managed to get past, even when a giant 12 falm tall tonberry with a cleaver showed up. Some cover from Locke aided the group in avoiding everything. The library yielded information on the purple stone.   A second group was assigned to continue searching the Thousand Hall of Oschon. More puzzles awaited the group, but not before they found a pair of tonberries carrying a chest. The tonberries were dispatched with only Ashe taking a hit and the treasure was collected. The group continued past tricky puzzles and traps, including exploding automatons, and eventually made it to a room full of treasure. The room was looted and many valuable pieces made their way back to the ship.   The third group ventured into the jungle where a cult of Nym was said to hold the green stone. Catherina disguised herself as a cultist and lead the others, who posed as her followers. The deception was successful and the group quick gained entry to the second ring of the cultists camp where they were tasked with performing various duties as trial. The group completed the trials granting them access to the inner most ring. Catherina was allowed to speak to the Oracle while the others completed three more trials. By the end they managed to relieve the cult of the stone and return safely to the ship.

The Amdaporian Dig

Chronicler's Report 24th Sun, Third Umbral Moon
The crew sought entry into an Amdapor building that was sealed by three wards. Each ward had become home to, and was protected by, large and dangerous beasts. The crew decided to split up to take care of each beast simultaneously. An enchantment was placed on the crew to allow them to interact with the demon bricks that called the ruins home.   A'kata took a group to face a horde of odd amalgamate beasts protecting a large cocoon of some sort. This group was able to use the demon bricks to form powerful towers that attacked their enemies, weakening the horde before it reached the crew. This allowed the crew to take out the remaining beasts with relative ease. As the cocoon began to open the towers were given a 'purge' command and summoned holy to decimate everything in the area.   Locke lead another team to face a massive Morbol. Their demon bricks fused together when in contact and eventually formed a golem. The group commenced running around; dodging Morbol vines, to throw as many individual bricks onto the growing golem as they could. Two more golems were found and all three were fused into one golem big enough to take on and defeat the Morbol The Golem and the Morbol were destroyed in the process.   Corsa'ir took the final team under the ruins where a large lava spider had formed an ever-flaming web over the seal. Their enchantment allowed them to activate and control a large golem with five of them gaining specific control over individual limbs. The remaining party members protected the golem by destroying globs of lava that threatened to damage it. They were successful and their golem defeated the spider. With all three creatures destroyed, the seals could be broken and access was granted to the building.

Piracy on the High Seas

Chronicler's Report 14th Sun, Fourth Astral Moon
The location of the final piece of the key to the Nymian vault was discovered. It was held in a safe; the combination of which was known only to one man. The crew devised a plan to get this combination and with it complete the key.   Corsa'ir lead a group to find the man and extract the combination. This went immediately south as a voidsent was also looking for the combination. The group ended up in a dream realm controlled by the voidsent who intended to break their minds and use their bodies for its own goals. They managed to not only gain the combination from the memories held in the realm, but also defeated the voidsent sending him back from whence he came. It is unclear if he might return.   Z'ylarix lead a group sent cause a distraction so the first group could complete their mission. They attacked the fleet escorting the main target. Hopping from vessel to vessel they destroyed each one as they went. They eventually came across the captain of the fleet and with the help of a turncoat took him down. The remaining crew of the fleet stood down after the execution and the group extracted.   Locke lead a group to acquire a ship to extract the other groups. They sneakily approached an enemy support vessel before launching their attack. Cannon fire and magic rained down on the enemy only to be blocked by a barrier. The group quickly found the source of the barrier and a weak point. Targeted lightning strikes broke through and the mage maintaining the protection was quickly felled. The ship was quickly taken and looted after that and the group prepared to offer assistance to the others. Through this venture the final piece of the key was acquired and the crew prepared to return to the vault.

The Vault

Chronicler's Report 29th Sun, Fourth Astral Moon
With all the key to the vault reforged, the crew could finally enter and see the secrets held within. The path split into three and so, to ensure every treasure was found, the crew did as well.   Corsa'ir lead a group down a hall that seemed to have a golden glow at the end. Sure enough the group found a room filled to the brim with gold, jewels, and relics of probable high value. Each member of the party felt the pull of a relic and ended up cursed by their item. Through intelligence, strength of will and not a small amount of teamwork, the group managed to break their curses and take off with a large amount of treasure.   A'kata lead a second group down another hall that lead to a very large door. After much debate on how to open it, Einarr gave it a push and to the group's surprise, the door simply swung open. Within the chamber sat a large person with tonberry like features. The man invoked a spell to summon crystal creatures to fight the crew until a large fist broke through the wall giving the group a means of escape.   Z'ylarix lead the final group down the third hall, at the end of which was a laboratory. Upon entering the lab the group was attacked by a flesh creature. Killing the creature cause the lab to regain power and other creatures began to awaken. The group decided to blow up the lab and the creatures within as they made their escape.   As all three teams exited their chambers the island began to collapse, the halls flooding with water. The crew made it back to the Rocinante with most of their loot in tow and watched as the island sunk below the waves.
