Redfleck Kobolds

“Behind every snooty, uptight Drokhari noble is a legion of Redflecks he stepped on to get there.”

  •       Redfleck kobolds, or "draklings" as they're referred to among the Drokhari, are rumored to be the First Dragon's retort to the singular, war-minded disposition of the early Drokhar   . Redflecks were so common among the earliest clans of drokhari that their histories are inseparable, and there are countless tales of the early cities of man being completely overrun by the "hordes of drokhari children". In modern days, the two species have forged their own cultural identities, though they still share their language and much of their family-first cultural structure. Whether the kobolds’ subterranean relatives came first or after is a mystery, however only the redflecks possess the sporadic metallic scales that give their species their namesake.   Industrious and precocious, it is not uncommon to find redflecks in positions of an engineering or magical nature, and while they made history in the earliest eras as shock troops, Drokhar history refers to them as the backbone of the clan structure, filling the roles of healers, smiths, educators, and innovators in ways the warrior-and-honor centric drokhari never managed (or bothered with).   Today, most redfleck kobolds live in urban locations where the convenience of resources can allow their large families to thrive, and the opportunities for more industrial trades are plentiful. Redfleck culture traditionally favors crowded, shared social and living spaces. It’s not uncommon in urban kobolds to live with multiple generations of multiple families under one roof, with no clear delineation of property ownership. Much like the Drokhar, the family is above all else, and if one kobold comes into possession of property it’s viewed as a belonging to anyone under the same clan banner.
Redfleck kobolds typically have a strong mind for invention, and close family bonds. When playing a Redfleck, consider your Inspiration - the thing that drives you to discover. If you’re a bard, your Inspiration may be the invention of a new type of music. As an assassin, you might revel in clever ways to dispatch your quarry.    Consider also your familial ties. Many Redfleck kobolds have dozens of cousins and close family members, especially in city centers and in the Province of Drokhar, to the north. Your cousin might know a guy who knows a guy. Finding clues might be a sister away.
During the Great War, most Redflecks found themselves on the side of the Azurian Empire, in positions of research and engineering, aiding both the Blackstone Corps and the Tinker’s Union in creating engines of destruction. Kobold sappers were integral in holding the line during the Battle of Gainesridge, using hundreds of blackstone mines to halt the Redfang Horde in its tracks.
