Disbandment
The Second Akenit dynasty would come to its end in 980 FD, when the Emperor, and several of his immediate family members were killed after being infected by the Rot fungus. Infesting one in every three people in the Sun Delta, the region would experience massive depopulation as harvests went uncollected, and famine became widespread.
Eventually growing over what little plant life there was in the cities of the Delta, even the urban streets of the capital were not safe from the brownish growths advance. Infesting the gardens of the first imperial palace, it would strike down most of the royal family within a few months of arriving in Sunar and render the vast empire leaderless in the midst of a dire crisis. With no clear successor to the empire, a power struggle soon erupted in Upper Sunar, between commanders and magistrates over who should succeed the collapsed Akenit dynasty. As the remnants of imperial authority fought in the drier, arid regions of the south, the Sun Delta fell into anarchy. Lacking food, order, leadership or much in the way of hope, most cities began to fall into chaos. The First Empire would come to an end thanks to the Rot Crisis. Unable to replace their last emperor, Sunar would devolve into a collage of feuding cities and warlords. None of these self styled heirs to the empire would ever restore it though, instead that honor would fall upon a foreign born general, out of the deep south, hailing from the warm summer lands of Drumidia.
