The Century of Occupation

No Kazar would ever reforge the Kazatar after the death of the Great Kazar; and throughout the century of their occupation numerous civil wars would be fought for supremacy between the horse lords. Ultimately the Kazatar would devolve into a sort of oligarchic state, where a Kazar reigned, but with the backing of the horse lords; who held the real power.   By around 1150 FD, conflicts back west drew Zanarid attention away from the better known world. While it is not known exactly who the horse lords were fighting, what is known is that it weakened them severely; and kept them occupied in the remote west for decades to come.   Terror would keep the Kazatar together in these times, even with the horse lords fighting among themselves, as the brutality of their invasions forever after stuck with the Sunarian people. Fearing Zanarid reprisal, Sunar, and many of its neighbors, dutifully, if unhappily, followed the governance of the Kazar's governors, and steadily paid fealty and tax to the horse lords, even in their most tumultuous of civil wars. During these times, tribute, was simply reserved, until a victor asserted himself and sent word east, demanding fealty once again.
