The Grippli of the Southern Gnarls

1500 PW

The Southern Gnarls. A horrible place, where the roots of the Arengold Forest wrap around a jungle. Here is where the Orcs and Dwarves asked Filli to provide powerful and challenging game for them to hunt. She relented, introducing Dire Wolves, Tigers, dangerous flora, and much more for the hunting races to attend to.

Filli found the Southern Gnarls to be too brutal and strange. While she loved animals, there was something about the Gnarls that she wished was preserved. The Dwarves left their hunts with the forest in shambles. The Orcs often overhunted rare creatures, forcing Filli to create more. And both races left the bodies of their young hunters behind in spades. Filli decided there must be a protector for these races, who threw their youth's bodies at the beautiful nature contained in the Gnarls.

After the Dwarves lost over 200 warriors hunting the beastly Mammoth they called Tuskborne, Filli decided something must be done. She introduced the Grippli, a Frog people with poisonous glands, the ability to climb trees, and vibrant coloring. At first, Jörreg and Ïorreg alike doubted her judgement. The Grippli are tiny, compared to the Dire creatures surrounding them. Filli, however, asked only for time.
The Grippli of the Southern Gnarls are in tune with nature. After surviving nearly 600 years hunting, defending, and sneaking through the Gnarls, they are representative of the bridge between man and nature. Their camoflauge and natural tendencies for Druids and Rangers allowed them to turn from attacking nature to allying themselves with the creatures they previously slew with poison and cunning. And, since Filli filled the Southern Gnarls with deadly, poisonous plants. the Grippli's natural resistance against poison allowed them to feed on things that most animals could only dream of eating.
They befriended hunters quickly; their diplomats were shockingly effective. All they wanted was to ensure that hunts were taken seriously and carefully, and that the only targets that died was the few animals needed to prove that the youths reached adulthood; Dwarves and Orcs agreed to their terms readily, as did most races that hunted in the Southern Gnarls. Thanks to Grippli guides, the Gnarls became much more hospitable for the races that explored there. The Grippli became critical for anyone who needed to head to the Gnarls for any reason.
