Major Language Groups and Dialects

Elvish. Fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Elven literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous among other races. Many bards learn their language so they can add Elvish ballads to their repertoires.

Common Dress Code

Most Elves dress in long flowing robes or dresses. Rare is the sight of an Elf in the more common clothing of other races. Their more practical clothing such as sets of armor are still improved with decorations and shining colours.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Elves hunt game, gather food, and grow vegetables, and their skill and magic allow them to support themselves without the need for clearing and plowing land. They are talented artisans, crafting finely worked clothes and art objects. Elves encountered outside their own plane are commonly traveling minstrels, artists, or sages, making their living teaching others of the vast history of whatever plane they once called home. Since they are so long-lived, Elves can enjoy centuries of exploration and discovery. They dislike the pace of human society, which is regimented from day to day but constantly changing over decades, so they find careers that let them travel freely and set their own pace. Elves also enjoy exercising their martial prowess or gaining greater magical power.

Common Taboos

Elves have many taboos that seem extremely strange to other races but usually have some very specific reasoning to them. Some examples would include leaving a bedroom or similar resting area without thanking the spirits of the local area for their protection (A once great and mighty ruler of one Elven empire in the past forgot to do this the morning of a great battle and cost both himself and his men their lives) or that the gift of a Hyrinean lily is required to announce ones love.

Historical Figures

Nagira Siannodel - Current head of the Elven people and their representative in the alliance. Syndriel Myconna - Drider who brought the surface elves to peace with their drow and drider cousins from beneath the ground.

Common Myths and Legends

Throughout all the myths and legends of the Elven people there are two that are told time and time again.   The first tells the tale of a young elf from the time before flight was even commonplace who looked to the stars and dreamed of visiting them. He spent his life attempting various ways of doing so: jumping off of rooftops, learning flight magic and even constructing large contraptions to try and do so. One day the child, now a man, disappeared and it is said he achieved his goal and is still somewhere out there.   The second tale speaks of a woman who was the most beautiful the world had ever seen. Men and women from across the land would flock to even catch a glimpse of her beauty. The woman was not only beautiful but smart as well. She created many new spells and technologies but the people would only see her for her looks. Eventually the woman grew tired of being seen as an object and cast a great spell that took her beauty and gifted it to her people as well. Now with her people just as elegant as she they saw the lady as the great mind she was and that was how the Elves gained their natural elegance.
