The Warrens of Hartend

The streams run clear through the woods of hartend, in the South of Schanri. Their banks are a commotion of undergrowth, brambles growing on earth, ivy over brambles, ferns over ivy, long strands and carpets of moss over ivy, and a cacophony of birdsong and insect's drones to complete the scene. These streams, weaving over boulder and around moss festooned branches, through the woodland labyrinth to reach a hidden wonderland: The Hartend Warrens. The entrance to these caves are where the streams cascade into the mouth of the caverns sparkling under the dappled needles of sunlight that pierce the dense canopy above. The grottos then extend down into the hills, punctuated by skylights where the vines of the woods can venture down into the caves.

The warrens of Hartend are a mystery to most of the people who live around the woods. Only a few fortunate people have ever found the elusive entrance, never by accident. Those who search for it are always doomed to fail. Even the elves (who consider the place sacred) are uncertain of its exact location. It is suspected by many that a powerful fey being rules over the warrens, and is responsible for keeping it safe and hidden.

Despite it's seclusion, however, the warrens are a welcome sight for those who those who become lost or wounded in the forests, legends telling of how its tunnels led wanderers back to safety, or the streams having healing properties which save the lives of injured travelers.
