Sky Gnomes
Sky gnomes are gnomes whose wanderlust has drawn them away from hidden burrows and forest glades, and into the sky, where they fly amongst the clouds in magically suspended floating towns, airships, and hot air balloons, which are, as with many gnomish dwellings, hidden from view by powerful illusions. Sky gnomes are the most skilled at combining the two areas of gnomish expertise: engineering and magic, rather than specialising in just one. This has allowed them to build powerful magical contraptions, which were long sought after by human kingdoms, which, when they acquired them, resulted in The Lands of Ruination. This just goes to show how delicate the machines are, and how skilled the gnomes have to be to use them. However following the events that led up to the great ruination, the sky gnomes decided that it would be too dangerous, both to themselves and the land dwellers, to continue to fly above the civilised lands. So, they flew out into the archipelago, where they disappeared into legend - whether their fleet was destroyed, still flying above the sea, or had escaped into the plane of air is unknown.
